Third times the charm - 90 Iroc + Ls3+

Been down this path a couple time and the first two I didn't really get a chance to get the cars where I wanted and dumped them. Was just gonna keep this one stockish but the 350 kicked it on the way home.

This time around I stripped it down to nothing and painted it silver. What a mess that turned out to be.

Sitting waiting to go in is:

LS3 480HP Crate
RPM Level 5 Trans
Monster Stage 2 Clutch + Tick Cyl
Moser 12 Bolt
Ls1 Tank + Racetronix pump + new lines.
All new interior
Ride Tech E3 + Front and Back Bags
Koni Yellows
2010 Camaro SS Wheels
2010 Camaro SS Brakes

Probably add on an e-force blower if it all works out.

Still havent decided on seats/steering wheel.

Some starting pics also a quick pic of the 2011 I just picked up too for a daily.

Wheels are easy to change after the fact.

I haven't seen many wheels I like on these cars, it looked decent enough to try on the photoshop and they are cheap as takeoffs

I got a deal on the 480 hp version which is an ls3 with the hot cam kit and it came with the harness/computer. I had a 6L I was gonna go that route but trying to find all the sensors and wiring it was easier to sell that and go this route for the price I got it.

I just have some pics during the painting process, its not showroom but I did it solo and learned alot. I'll post more as I clean it up and start wrenching.

Rear is a Moser 12 bolt. 3.90 gears, tru trac, 33 spline axles, got it from a friend.

I coulda built it alot bigger engine wise but I just sold my 900 hp vette I bought from colordo and it was completely useless where I am. 500 hp is plenty and dead stock reliablity and focus more on the handling this round.

Looking good bro. If that's the wheels you're talking about I'd say they will look just fine, depending upon what the rubber is going to be and the tire style. it looks like they will fit under the wheel well just fine.

Best wishes on your project. Your daily driver looks good too. *S*

255/30/20 front and 275/30/20 rear. Around 26" overall height on the tires. Air ride lets you cheat and set the height too easy, just need to get the offsets right.

Tires are the yoko S drives.

Re: Third times the charm - 90 Iroc + Ls3+

What a bitch.

Mistake #1 was not getting a tubular k-member. No A/C now, the thing wouldnt fit like I gambled on. Tried using the one from the vettes to match the new pully setup. Shoulda trial fit it before installing everything. Guess non of them have had a/c so whatever, saves me a ton of work.

The sphon engine mounts and the poly engine mount were a disaster. I had to take the mounts off and slot them so they would move up an 1/2 inch on the driver side. Why they dont build in some wiggle room with some slots is beyond me.

Also the engine harness from the kit was an ultra tight fit getting it ran into the engine bay and to the original ECM slot. It fit, however the branch off the passenger side is not good at all, if only the trunk was 5" longer it would be perfect. Something to mess with tommorrow.

I like the engine cover, until you look at it from the side.

Re: Third times the charm - 90 Iroc + Ls3+

Looks great man!! Im jealous of how you took it down to nothing and started fresh with everything.

Not sold on that engine cover though...

With your A/C...You dont need the tubular k-member. You can notch your stock one. Looks like you notched for the oil pan in the one pic, so it wouldnt be a big deal for you. Or does the LS3 a/c mount in a different place than the LS1??

Re: Third times the charm - 90 Iroc + Ls3+

nice idea on the cover. I will probably just run it sans cover for now.

it's the new serpentine kit with the ls3 style compressor, outlets on the side, I notched for what I thought would work, and then re-notched to try and get it to work, no go and now I got a big hole that I'll cover up with the heater hoses. Im not gonna run a tubular where I am at, terrible roads.

Today I got all the pedals all installed and the tick master which went it crazy easy and started working on the wiring. I decided not to use the fuse box with the kit, just pull out the wiring I need and use my stock fuse panel. It should turn out pretty good.

The silver is silver rush metallic from summit. I think they use house of kolor. Shot really nice for my first time and the only peice thats a little off is one of the fenders is off a bit of color at the top.

I dropped a ladder on the bumper today when I was pulling around the air line, and previous dropped a clamp on my door ground effect so I have some touch ups. If I keep it I'll probably have it resprayed by a pro in a decent booth, we'll see how the wetsanding helps.

Now to order more parts.

IMO too much silver. Have the rims painted/powder coated black. Either way though, way cool. Good for you having disposable cash in this economy!

i do agree on the to much silver hopefully you go with black interior, and maybe chrome wheels. that would look good but all the painted silver is almost to much. the car looks GREAT!! i agreed with ghetto im not sold on that cover either. let it all hang out. show your work.

The 11 is on loan from GM This project I have saved up over the last 11 years, selling my 08 z06 spurned this build. Working up north in the oil country helps as well.

the seats will be a mix of black and grey and other parts are easy enough to change to see

I've always liked the silver on silver ish. I can't handle black wheels.

Re: Third times the charm - 90 Iroc + Ls3+

It's alive!!! kinda

The bad.. Ran into a couple snags and overall frustration

The ls3 manifolds hit all over the stock k-member.. makes me wish I woulda did the tubular K as it woulda fixed this and the a/c problem.. too late now. headers ordered. I was gonna try the brp ones but havent seen anyone use them yet so going with stainless works again.

After buying a couple different types of oil pressure sensors. I decided to tap out the valley cover. I think theres gotta be an adapter as the other pics I seen, mine was completely flat. The car ran for about 10 seconds and put about 1/4 quart of oil on the ground. Oh well, its more to fix at this point then a new one costs so that went on the list.

I bought 2 oil filters that would not work on the pan. I fought like crazy tryin to get one one and just mangled it. After some digging I found they used the oil adpater on the new pan kits with the ls7 fitting that uses a PF48 filter. Got a couple of those and rocking now.

The good.

Got a ton done, all the wiring is pretty much straightened out all thru the stock harness spliced into the GM wiring kit without using the fuse panel with the ECM in the stock location. The doors are all back together.. The hatch is on. Air bag systems is good to go. All the parts are incoming to complete I hope, just in time for the snow!

Complete the interior next weekend probably.

i knew the wheels would look great on there. just takes the right tire size to look good. 30 series tire should do the trick. cant wait to see it on the ground.! keep up the good work. Love the LS3 in there.

Re: Third times the charm - 90 Iroc + Ls3+

Yep Im just north of you in Fort McMurray, Ill probably be down to edmonton dyno or to 1/4 it

Got the interior started this weekend.. I am completely disgusted by the replacement parts.

The 150 Hawks center console pad, doesn't match the black and the vinyl on it is marred up outta the box already.

Acc carpet, hopefully it gets better after time as it fits horrid as well.

The upper trim mounting for the door panel.. worst fitting peice I have ever encountered. The mounting tabs are these tiny little plastic stubs.. The clips on the stock ones screw on, these I had to press them on backwards.. I don't know how horrible they can make these when the same place made the door panels.. Then there is this felt peice that pretty much jammed the window when it went by so I hacked that off and it finally went up again.

The door panels are not bad until you have to carve holes in them and put the trim peice on it.

Soffseal weatherstripping.. Terrible compared to the stock GM stuff.. ill fitting and too long in alot of spots.. broken and ripped in places outta the box.

The above setup barely lets the windows roll up compared to stock, so shitty with the $$ I have into this thing now. Im almost ready to throw in the towel

Ultimately I wish I started with a low mile car with a nice GM interior

Im dreading installing the headliner with how the rest of this **** fits.

Thats a sweet setup, are the brembo brakes the same mounting as c5 calipers or are they different? Where did you get the mounting brackets for the brembos?

It looks super good.

I'm really curious to see the car when it's got rubber on the rims and sitting on the ground. I bet those wheels will look really good on a 3rd gen.

Re: Third times the charm - 90 Iroc + Ls3+

Yah I can't wait for it to be on the ground and moving. It snowed here yesterday..

Got the hawks headers in, man they fight tight on the K-member. Had to do some bashing on the pass side. It F'd up all the wire routing I had done before as these headers are tight on the frame rail of the driver side. Should remembered that before I stuffed them in.

My wiper motor broke some how and doesn't sweep so I gotta figure that out now too.

For the fronts I went with Camaro SS brembo front setup from Ed Miller. Im doing a twist on the install tho and running the brakes on custom spacers so they are not stickin in 2" as I hate that look.

For the rears I have willwood 14" rotors with ls1 hat's.. incoming is the rear brembo calipers, from there I will have to do up an adapter bracket which I'm gambling will fit.

The 24 bolts for the rear brake rotors cost 5$ each alone.. crazy stainless bolts

So do those wheels fit without any spacers? Your car looks good!

Re: Third times the charm - 90 Iroc + Ls3+

Here's a little tech on the brakes/wheels.

Stock

Camaro 82-92 16x8 front 0mm 4.35"
Camaro 89-92 16x8 rear 16mm 5"
5 x 120.7mm bolts
They run a 70.3 mm centerbore hole

Camaro SS

2 front: 20x8, 35mm offset, 5 7/8 backspace.
2 rear: 20x9, 40mm offset, 6 5/8 backspace.
5 x120 on a 14mm stud
They run a 70.3 mm centerbore hole

In the front I got a 1.75" spacer that was 70.3 centerbore on the bottom and has 14mm studs on a 120mm bolt pattern.. for the brakes to work on the spacer a secondary small stepped spacer that was 70.3 for the brake rotor to 67.1 for the wheels and brakes to be centered perfectly.. I coulda stayed 67.1 on stock sized brakes but ed opened the centerbore to run 70.3 on the thirdgen hub. I had a set of 4th gen c6 brake adpaters I cut up to make the brace to push the caliper out and it looks solid.

In the back I am running a 4th gen rear and it had 3" studs so Im running a small 1/2" spacer that goes from 70.3mm to 67.1 so the wheels bolt on and will sit on the edge of the fender, if not I can get that spacer cut down to fit.

Re: Third times the charm - 90 Iroc + Ls3+

Quick update.

Got the engine going pretty good now.. open headers + garage = burning eyes

I had a SGI-8 box and the tach was hopin around but it wasn't right and I was changin jumpers to get it right and now its dead completely and I might have fried it

I can't get the oil pressure gauge to display anything directly off the 98 oil pressure sensor either

The wiper motor started workin outta the blue which was good.

Should be rolling shortly when the adpaters show up.

I can't wait til this is finished.. the little parts are nickel and diming me to death and being up here in canada makes it 5x worse for shipping and ****.. i wish I could undo this build and go back to my 08 z06

Yep, I replaced the weaterstripping on my dads -86 Grand Prix with softseal weatherstripping as you did, and encountered the same problems. Doors wont hardly close at all, and the windows wont go up...
Anyways..your build is totally sick!!!
