92 Formula Ls1 Swap
Has anyone here been crazy enough to do the ls1 swap twice??
My first car is still kickin around but I went a little overboard trying to swap everything in it. This time I held back a little
Old 92 GTA
I figured after the last time it would go alot better if I went back for seconds.. as much as people like the manual its a pain in the *** to me (lazy :0 ) so I decided on an auto
I bought what I thought was a rust free 92 Formula, obviously my vision of rust and the sellers were different as it was completely covered on the bottom (body was not bad).. after breaking the fuel lines off the filter and the brake lines and pretty much every suspension peice we kinda had it under control.
I had the opportunity for a 98 TA parts car that I had previously sold to a friend and he abonded it so we pulled the engine outta that beast. I was gonna go LS2 but the price was right for this, ended up with a built engine and tranny for pretty much nothing.
Luckily I had my friend that works at a suspension shop to help me out, body lift FTW
The test drive was a dis heartning, no traction, I think we imported a couple pounds of texas dirt on the car too
Couple weeks later which was good considering I towed the car cross country, got the parts car 6 hours away, stripped the 92, parted out the 98 and we got it all in.. Its still a couple parts away from success as I got the wrong coupler for the intake and the ecm is lost in the mail or just really really slow returning
I ended up with:
92 Formula
Tokiyo Struts and Springs
Ws6 Suspension (odd for a tbi car)
Canuk Springs
Extended stock LS1 Harness spliced into 92 TBI body harness
A/C Conversion Brackets
255 In tank holley with typical AFPR I copied from everyone elses setup
98 Ls1, heads, cam, bbk intake, bbk throttle body
02 Manifolds w/ unique exhaust
Built Auto with a 3200 Art Carr Stall
Little dirty and the lighting sucks but I wanted to have it done before the snow melted to have the summer to enjoy it
The exhaust I couldnt get a booking in the city for a month so we tried it, with no experience only a welder that wouldnt reach the car and a few bends we had it pretty good but one pipe is a little too long so it doesnt tuck as well as I had it in joining the one joint coming down . Overall its hard to beat free over the 700$ it would have cost me in this town. We'll revisit it with longtubes one day maybe as the roads clearance that pipe for us
I still have to put the ls1 brakes, firehawk wheels and a severe cleaning and touchup hopefully this weekend but it should be a nice car when that happens and probably a quick paint job next year

Re: 92 Formula Ls1 Swap
not quite
the 98 parts car came from texas, shipped to the border where my friend got it ~6 hours from the border he is and im 6 hours north west of him and 8 hours south of me is the other border where I got the forumla shipped (IL car), that trip my good friend is going to school in a city a couple hours from the border so I made a nice vacation of it
Here salvage Fbodys go for more then you guys sell running cars for. if you can even find a smashed one as theres a dude in edmonton that hordes them and sells the parts for absurd prices.
