Ls1 Auto Y Pipe Pics

Im at the last step of doing the exhaust on my swap and want to see what the auto swappers have come up with. There is not much room there and most everyone on here has the T56s.

Post Pics!

Re: Ls1 Auto Y Pipe Pics

Ill never go auto... but being the curious guy that I am, Ide like to see what people came up with too. The y-pipe, in my humble opinion, is the most challenging part of the LS1 swap. Even for the t56 guys if you want it to look good and flow good... Simply because there is no good aftermarket solution.

I dont know the undersides of the auto cars very well...but I remember them being TIGHT.

Yup VERY tight. I would probably do a frame sectioning/re-work if I ran an auto with an LS1 ( or any engine with LT's for that matter ) which is why I'm curious to see if anyone chimes in here. In fact I cant stand the entire floor pan layout of third gens it really is their achilles heel. I'd probably chop out everything from the rear seat to the firewall and make it all new. It wouldn't be very difficult at all with some 2x3" rectangular tube and some 20 gauge sheet metal. All migged up solid and strong it would make room for the exhaust and act as a body stiffener/frame connectors and incorporate a torque arm mount.

Otherwise there is little choice other than running underneath the trans cross member which is less than great for ground clearance. It works though I;ve done it in the past on auto cars.

i only briefly looked under the car.. i know the pipe for the 6 speed and ls1 with the drews wasnt easy for anywhere I took it as we are limited to people that can do quality work

this time if its wrong I can only blame my friend that will be helpin to weld it up

I thought about tryin to go around the frame and a crossover over the bottom of the tranny.. we'll see next weekend

Great thanks Stage 20 do you have more pics? From the side and perhaps some that might show the y-pipe design better? We'll add this thread to the sticky

only other one i have. the 1st piece of pipe is 2.5" to fit the stainless works collector. it was actually a 4ft piece of pipe with a lil bend in it and chopped it down to about 6" so we could clear the spohn x member. it was the only way to get a good bend around the tubing.
i have plans to switch styles of torque arms as soon as i come across a deal.
what i have works, i dont want to buy a new one.

Re: Ls1 Auto Y Pipe Pics

I'd also like to see some pictures of what people did for y-pipes using the stock manifolds. Should my local exhuast shop have the flanges to mate up to the ls1 manifolds?

Re: Ls1 Auto Y Pipe Pics

Yikes...that does not look fun gents. Almost makes me glad to deal with my master cylinder issues... haha. I ALMOST went auto. The deal for my donor car was too good to pass up, and it was T56 so thats what I got. Its proving to be more fun for me anyway. haha.

The pipes pictured dont look too bad. As long as you arent beating them up on the street they look good!
