Seat cover hog ring help

I purchased some quality leather seat covers and I'm working on installing them. I started with the rear seat bases.

I got the old covers removed, all the old rings cut/removed. When trying to install the new ones, though, I can't find anything to clip the hog rings to down in the inside of the seat along the back and sides. The factory ones were definitely clipped to something down there (they weren't coming out until I removed those hog rings). What am I missing? The outside frame is easy enough to see to clip hog rings to, but I need to start with those inside parts.

On a side note, the old hog rings and seat cover rods were decently rusty and crumbly down in there.

Re: Seat cover hog ring help

There should be wire embedded in the foam.

Re: Seat cover hog ring help

The bottom seat frame was there, as in your photo, and it was fine. It was the portion where you ring the top of the seat cover down into the crevace... There was just nothing left in there.

I took a coat hanger and sharpened one end. I ran it through the seat foam in the right area, and bent both ends down. I used this to hog ring the top of the seat cushion down. It seemed to work well.

Re: Seat cover hog ring help

Early rear seat cushions used hog rings, later ones were glued on (topside). Up front its either hog rings or velcro, mostly.

Re: Seat cover hog ring help

My 1990 rears had hog rings around the edges underneath, hog rings in the "inside" across the back and sides, and a strip of integrated velcro across the middle of the seat. The replacements didn't have the velcro. I did hog ring the back of the "seat" portion to a coat hanger I inserted into the foam to hold it down. I think they look pretty good.

Re: Seat cover hog ring help

Now that i think about it. Maybe its the 4th gen seats that use velcro and glue, along w/ hog rings. I recall seeing that on my 4th gen seats when i recovered them.
Seat cover looks great, like the red/blk. Who's the maker? That lady from florida?
