Interior dimensions question

What’s the LONGEST thing you can shove in a third gen. Firebird and camaro. I’ve heard that you can fold down the back seat for more space for taller items but i wanna know exactly how long the space inside the car is. For example if i were to go fishing, id shove a big ol rod in it.(i fish alot). You guys got a measurement for me?

Re: Interior dimensions question

They make a special tool for determining that. Can't remember who makes it but I met someone years ago who had one. Took me a lot of internet searching but I finally found a picture of one. They are kind of expensive...

Re: Interior dimensions question

Somewhere between 6 and 7' if you fold the seat down and lay whatever it is on the dash. Didn't measure exactly.

You may run into problems with whatever it is hitting the back glass at that point due to the angle. The profile of these cars is remarkably flat.

Re: Interior dimensions question

I brought home a Home Depot, cheap a$$ Bushwood (or whatever brand), 72" high cabinet kit in the 3rd gen. I had to lash down the hatch. IIRC, there was a couple of feet sticking out the back with the rear seats folded down.

Re: Interior dimensions question

Well since you don't own a third gen and apparently don't have any access to one to measure it I'll go ahead and answer your question.
The longest straight thing you can fit is 232'. You will have to break out the windshield and leave the rear hatch open. Any longer and you won't be able to make turns in the city. If you want to pack something coiled like PEX or something it will hold 1,200'.

Why someone who doesn't own a thirdgen and doesn't have access to one would want to know this I have no idea.

Anyone know what is the longest thing I can fit in a 2002 Miata? I might go fishing someday and want to be ready.

Re: Interior dimensions question

Isn't that the purpose of the windows rolling down? 1) Up/down hand motions in the wind, 2) Relieve the passenger compartment of "taco tuesday", and 3) protruding fishing poles like CB whip antennas
