1983 Firebird 5.0 auto speedometer cable

I have an 83 firebird 5.0

SE automatic and the speedometer cable is broken. It’s torn at the transmission. The car has cruise(and it doesn’t work and I was going to delete it) but am wondering what size cable I need. Rock auto lists multiple options. Thanks

If you're going to delete cruise control the speedometer cable is 76.8in/1950mm long according to the GM parts book.

Re: 1983 Firebird 5.0 auto speedometer cable

IIRC the early cables ran from the tranny to the CC set-up,... then another - shorter - cable from the Cruise Control into the cabin for the cluster. Later cars (84-89 ?) used a different / longer cable that runs from the tranny directly to the cluster. I'd use the longer 85-89 style cable if you are not using the Cruise Control.

I see. So In theory the later cable should work? Or would it be a better bet to get the two shorter ones and have it go through the cruise control

It's your call; if you wanna' bypass the Cruise,..... get the 1 piece cable and pull that cruise control "thing" right out of there ! ! ! !
