repairing an odometer

Has anyone taken apart an odometer and repaired it? My odometer in my 91 had a hiccup and went from 59,999 miles to 160,000. The 0 rolled up showing most of the 1. Enough of the 1 is visible now to where the inspection station will note the mileage as 160,000 miles I need to get this corrected so I can get an inspection sticker.

Option 1: attempt to repair the odometer.
Option 2: buy another odometer and spin the digits until the odometer clocks back around to the correct mileage. Yes, this will take a while.

PM me if youre not comfortable talking about this in a public forum.
