Hi guys!

I have been investigating why my power door locks aren't getting into the final position when I hit the lock button.
Yes, I know about the thing with the ground spots for the actuators, but I don't think that is the cause of the issue here.

Looking into the door, I can see some kind of linkage connecting the rod from the door **** slider to the actuator and the lock mechanism.
Here's a look into the passenger side door, toward the rear, with the linkage in question having been circled. It is held in place by a stud through the frame.


I have found a picture on eBay from someone selling the linkage and I can see there is a spring around what I have marked with the smaller circle.
That spring is missing here and makes the hole thing loose and wobbly, which in turn keeps the rods from getting pushed that last bit of distance.
When I put my finger onto that rustcolored part to keep it in place, my doors will lock just fine.

Any idea how or where I can find that linkage or at least the spring from it?

BTW: Why has shipping overseas become so massively expensive?!
40 bucks for a padded envelope! I used to pay that much to get a heavy service manual in a box over here!

I'm having a similar problem. If I hit the lock button, 95% of the time the driver door won't lock. However if I hit the open button and then lock, it will lock. The chevy dealer i originally went to for this changed the door lock actuator but it didn't fix it.

Give the linkage a look. Perhaps you're having the same issue and cause.

I found a seller on eBay who was willing to help me out and put a linkage into the mail.

I'll update once it gets here and I have a chance of replacing the one in my door.

Soooooo... that didn't help at all.
Well, at least I now have the spring in there, but my hopes for it helping the actuator in any way were for nothing.

The spring just keeps the bellcrank centered at neutral. It doesn't push the lock the last bit, it actually works against the actuator.

The bigger issue is the latch/lock mechanism getting gunked up with age. Try pulling the latch assembly, and clean all the old grease out of it with solvent. Apply fresh grease and see if it works better.

Unfortunately cleaning and fresh lubrication can only go so far. The latch, striker, linkages, etc all wear with age and use. The rubber boots on the actuators get hard and dry out... Not to mention it's not the best system even when it was new.

Thanks for those part numbers! I could not find a diagram with that part anywhere, just without it.

while missing the spring everything was so really wobbly and holding it in place by pressing a finger on it was what had helped getting over that last bit of resistance.
The slack is gone with the replacement part, but that's it. I'll try disassembling the lock next. Thanks for the advice!
