Re: Reproduction door panel backing exact replacement chipboard
I would be very interested in this, before my car was totaled I was working on a new set of door panels by integrating third and fourth gen panels into one. Unfortunately fitment wise, they never made the cut so to speak.
Did you personally make them? And if so are you going to be making more. I would like to keep this in mind for when I get a replacement third gen.

What material are they made out of? Shipping fees and the exchange rate make this a no-go deal for me... Plus I have all the tools and skill at my disposal anyways.

Re: Reproduction door panel backing exact replacement chipboard
Any option to get these made out of another material (abs, metal) ???
I would like to get new ones, but for them to get wet, / crack where things attach, etc...
Any "sealer" than can be used on these?
Thanks,
Rafael

I have a spare set that I picked up that are nice, except for badly warped backing boards. Was going to use them for "parts" if ever needed.
Now I feel like fixing them!

Re: Reproduction door panel backing exact replacement chipboard
The reason I started making them was because when I would do a interior over and bought the aftermarket ones they never matched the rest of the interior usually the material is good just the backing board would be bad from water I am in the process of having something else reproduced, now when I get it hopefully this week I will post a picture and info .

Re: Reproduction door panel backing exact replacement chipboard
I need panels for a T/A. I want to do a custom doon panel, this would be the perfect base. Frankly, I'd say make them out of plastic. Let me know.

Re: Reproduction door panel backing exact replacement chipboard
I think my 91 Formula would use the TA / GTA ones too....
I'm down for a plastic set too...
Take a poll in the classifieds and see how much interest you get...
Charge enough to make it worth your while...
$40 for the ones you're selling is an excellent price (if it matched my car)...
I'de pay more for plastic or other material that matched my car...
Thanks...

Re: Reproduction door panel backing exact replacement chipboard
Just got mine yesterday. Extremely good quality. Very happy. But just to set the expectation. In my case I have an 87 IROC. These panels are 99% exact but there are a few very small areas that are not exact in form. But they are easily trimmed. I suspect perhaps the model that was used to create the die to cut these might have been from a year that was super slightly different. I only bring this up so that Ted doesn't get someone ordering them and wanting to return them because they are not 100% exact. Most of the areas of repo parts you get from Classic or other suppliers is not even close to what these are. They are by far the best out there. Thank you Ted for producing them. I have 3 more cars and I will not hesitate one bit to buy these again.

Re: Reproduction door panel backing exact replacement chipboard
I do think a rigid plastic would be a great option on these. My plastic water shields were in place and undamaged and my panel boards still show evidence of water damage. I would be interested in a rigid plastic set if feasible. Again, I think these are excellent reproductions, but for those of us not concerned with concourse restorations plastic would be a great option.

Re: Reproduction door panel backing exact replacement chipboard
Wow this is awesome! I was JUST yesterday thinking how I was going to make these to save a set of otherwise mint black 87 Formy panels. Love seeing new parts like this made for the thirdgen!
Wondering how they are different from the 82-84? My 83 could use some help too.

Re: Reproduction door panel backing exact replacement chipboard
Just picked up the order from UPS in Niagara Falls, NY today. Quality is VERY good. Fit and finish is excellent.
Will apply a coat of sealer to the panels first before doing anything else.

Re: Reproduction door panel backing exact replacement chipboard
I just did this on my own. Measured the thickness of the panel, went to Lowe's and grabbed up a 4x8 sheet of panel board in the same thickness, traced an outline of the old door panel onto the new piece, cut it out, reapplied the old door panel upholstery, mounted it. Doors sound better now and it looks a lot better than that old wore out, bent up panel that was there originally, and the best part, its water resistant lol. Sheet cost me less than 10 bucks. Just for us guys on a budget and that cant afford new door panels.
