How to test a hatch pull down motor out of the car

I have a spare hatch pull down unit complete with relay and want to test it to see if it works before I try and sell it. What are the proper steps to test it. Pics would be helpful also.

Easy. !2 volts to the blue wire that plugs into the red/white stripe wire on the car. Ground the black wire with a small ring terminal that connects to the body ground location on the car below where the pull-down mounts.

Press on the striker-sensing switch (just in front of the latch). The motor should start the down cycle. You should hear a CLICK from the reversing switch being tripped when it finishes the down cycle. Release the striker sensing switch and the motor should run all the way up until you again hear the CLICK from the reversing switch being tripped when it finishes the up cycle.

I use an external 12v battery to test them as such all the time.

Just to add, you MUST hold that striker-sensing switch down the entire duration of the down cycle. If you release it any time during the down cycle the motor will stop and will not start again until you press and hold down that switch again.
