Quality of the AAC molded carpet?

Hi,

I will shortly be ordering new black molded carpet for my Camaro. I will be getting front and back with the mass backing and the super plush (Essex) carpet.

I know there has been some discussion over the years regarding the quality of the fit of the AAC carpet. Has anybody installed one recently, and how was it? There is also some discussion that the mass backed carpet may fit better than the non-backed. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Finally, has anyone had an issue with the pre-cut hole for the center console?

Thanks,

John

Re: Quality of the AAC molded carpet?

I purchsed the AAC Carpet with backing and no console hole cut, brand new, but from a user on here. He purchased it and then ended up not using it.

I have not installed it yet, but from the look/feel, it's quality. I would get it with out holes cut, that way, if you are comfortable, you can cut it yourself and KNOW it's correct. As for if it fits better than non-backed not sure. Most people lay dynamat and other stuff down first, so that may help even more..

Fit was good, got mine without the cut-out. Wear quality is not what I expected, carpet sheds a lot.

Re: Quality of the AAC molded carpet?

I bought the Cut Pile ACC Carpet from 1A with the cut out,I only got the cut out because I figured it would be a great starting point and it was very helpful.I also got the Mass Backing because that's what the car came with originally. It's a good insulator from sound and moisture.
PS.the Mass Backing also includes the Jute Padding.

Re: Quality of the AAC molded carpet?

I bought the complete molded carpet kit from ACC for my 96 Bronco. Front to back, 2 pieces, Fit like a glove with the correct mold. Trimmed as necessary around the edges and looks "Factory Fresh."

PS: get the matching custom floor mats to go with it. Made from the same lot of carpet.

You won't regret the purchase.

Re: Quality of the AAC molded carpet?

I have it in my car. I was happy with it. I ordered it with mass back, without the console cut. I recommend ordering it and a set of mats at the same time. Tell whoever orders it for you(I got mine through 1A) to make sure they order everything from the same dye lot. This accomplishes two things. First, your mats will match your carpet perfectly, and second, it ensures they are custom making it for you. That means it is not sitting in their stock in a box getting creased up. As long as you pull it out of the box and lay it out when you get it, you will not have any issues with creasing.

Re: Quality of the AAC molded carpet?

Cool. Obviously I don't have much of a choice, I have to get the carpet from AAC. Is the passenger side front floor mat molded? I have had flat ones in the past and they don't sit correctly around the cat hump.

Good idea about requesting the same dye lot. Of course they could tell you they did it, when they actually didn't. But its worth a shot. Either way, I kinda doubt they have a warehouse full of Superplush thirdgen carpets. I bet they are made to order regardless.

Mats are molded like the originals.

Re: Quality of the AAC molded carpet?

We can add the mass backing to your orders, you would need to call our sales staff so we can manually add it to the order.

Thank you for your orders,

Tony

Can you do the Essex as well? Finally can you confirm or deny that the carpets are made to order?

1A Advertises that the carpets are made to order,If I recall it did take about 2 weeks or so to get mine, but I didn't order the Mats at that time.

Currently we can only order the cut-pile carpets. We can add the mass backing. Yes we do require about 2-3 weeks to ship. They are made to order.

Thanks for asking,
Tony

Re: Quality of the AAC molded carpet?

Has anyone actually ordered without the mass backing? I'm curious as to how much difference it actually makes. Debating...

Re: Quality of the AAC molded carpet?

I have used both ACC cut pile carpets with mass backing and without, they fit good, the mass backing is noticeably heavier.
Some trimming was required with both, the console cut was still practical for the whole intallation process.

With the basic carpet (no mass backing) I put 2 layers of thin, ultra light isolating foil on the whole bottom of the interior. It was made of aluminium film glued to a sheet of Polystyrene foam, around 4mm thick. I prefer this way, sound is a little clearer and the thermal insulation of the hot spots (trans, cat + exhaust) is better.

Re: Quality of the AAC molded carpet?

It is similar but it had expanded Polystyrene with and aluminium foil, no more than 4 mm thick, by the description this is very close http://www.insulationsolutions.com/c...ulzone/4x9.pdf

Re: Quality of the AAC molded carpet?

I bought the acc carpet a few years back. It had no backing just plain carpet the way I wanted it. I also orderd 4th gen carpet and it fit great. The bad thing is the sun kills this stuff pretty quick. Over the last 4 years the car has been out side about half the time and it very very faded under the rear window.

Re: Quality of the AAC molded carpet?

Well I ordered a the ACC Essex molded carpet along with mats and some extra Essex yardage to convert my other interior panels from gray to black. I am really glad I went with the Essex. It is probably on par with modern cars as far as feel. I imagine the non-essex is probably closer to 70's-80's cars in thickness and feel.

I got the center console converted from gray to black. Still have to swap out the console vents.

The ACC cut pile carpet is practically identical to the O.E. carpet.

Here is where I would disagree.

The color is slightly different but there is also a noticeable difference in the look & feel. The original has a grain (for lack of a better term) to it that the reproduction does not. I have a set and will not be using it in mine if I can find a clean enough original set.

I've used ACC carpets before in my older cars with great success, this time unfortunately I think they have missed the mark.
