Rear hatch motor will not stop trying to pull down
First time posting but long time reader of the threads and has been extremely helpful anyway, in my 87 iroc I went to close the rear hatch and it pulled down just fine and wouldn't stop trying to pull it down so i grabbed my keys quick and unlocked the latch (doesn't work from switch in interior) and the motor stopped trying to pull down. When I press the little black switch that tells the hatch to operate, it will just keep on running and I can't get the motor to go back up. I don't know if there is a sensor in there that senses when it is all the way down that could have went or something stripped in the motor. I saw something about a plastic screw that strips but i don't think thats the case... Help would be very much appreciated!!!

How easy is it to tell if its broken? I can't look at it right now but can when i get home, and how much would a replacement be if they even make them?

You might as well rebuild that whole thing while it's out. It's around ~$140 shipped for the rebuild kit which includes the motor (I think the link posted above is it) and everything else you need. A rebuilt one or to have yours rebuilt will run you easily into the 250-350 range. Simple tools and a simple job. Hopefully you disconnected power to the motor to prevent it from burning up or killing your battery...

From the description the problem could be as simple and inexpensive as the gear nut broke. It is available on my web site. Follow the repair instructions I posted over a decade ago here on TGO:
