Custom cloth - which fabric was original?

I have an 87 IROC that had the interior swapped. I am looking for the original style replacements, and there are many options to choose from...

Madrid velour
Encore velour
Regal velour
Madrid vinyl
Hampton vinyl (I think the was 4th gen material)

Which material or combination was used for the Deluxe or "custom cloth" option (square adjustable headrest)?

What is your recommendation for vendor, best reproduction and price?

Thanks,
Joe

This Is What The 87 Camaro Brochure Says Was Available.

Re: Custom cloth - which fabric was original?

Thanks. The question I have more what type of cloth? The seats feel more like a canvas than either of the velours. The velours seem more appropriate for the door panels and headliner, not the seats.

Has anyone purchases re-skins from Hawks, Ricks, 1AAuto, or Classic? Did you like it? Was it a good reproduction?

Thanks,
Joe

Re: Custom cloth - which fabric was original?

I think they call it "pallex" cloth. I have not heard of anyone making a correct reproduction, or anything close to one. Sucks since every GM car used this style of cloth up until the mid-late 1990s.

I know this is an old thread but for anyone like me who landed on it doing a search I will add some updated info. SMS Upholstery in Oregon might still have some NOS of what you are looking for. They bought up all the remaining NOS stuff from GM for many years of cars. Word of warning they aren't cheap but they are you're only chance. Good Luck

SMS does have the Gray custom cloth fabric, I have a sample of it. Unfortunately NOBODY is reproducing the 1 year only covers.

You're right, after more than a year of searching I have determined that NOBODY has the correct replacement door panels for 87. So I have decided to try to re-use mine. The chip board is the part that is bad and ratty but the upper cloth, lower carpet and profile pad are all still good. I am currently in the process of dis-assembling one door panel. I've carefully removed the stitching then very carefully pulled the fabric from the profile pad and then the pad from the panel. The fabric is a bit sun faded so I am going to try to RIT dye it in the next day or so. I have consulted with Princess from Lethal Interiors and she is quite sure that fabric is polyolefin. Very durable but apparently does not dye well. So this might be the weak link in my efforts. Assuming it does dye well enough to be re-used I will then put all the materials back on new chip board which I just ordered from Teddy61 here on 3rd Gen. He just recently began offering exact replacement door panel chip boards. Other members have said they are killer quality and exact to OEM. Mine should arrive soon. I'll keep you posted on how this all goes.

I'm in the same boat. Looking for replacement seat covers as well but for red custom cloth. Following along.
