4th Gen Seatbelts, weird issues...

So, a while back, I installed shoulder harnesses out of a 4th gen, because mine were shot, grey, and didn't retract anymore.

I just grabbed a set of the latches (receptacle next to console) from a 4th gen, and they don't work??

The metal plate on my seatbelts is TO BIG for the latches??

And yet, my original 3rd gen latches (I think they were the original ones) worked perfect??

I'm really confused at this point, and need to know exactly what I need.

Thanks guys!

If your car is 84+, you need to remove the mounting bracket attached to the floor. Then just bolt the seat belt to where the bracket bolt was.

Although that is also useful information, it's not what I was asking.

I'm talking about the actual seat belt LATCH. The metal insert is to big for the receptacle.

In other words, the seatbelt won't buckle, because it doesn't fit.

Ok, I think maybe I have thirdgen seat belts without knowing it.

Did any thirdgens ever come with the "one piece retractor" 4th gen's have?

In other words, they don't have two spools, just one in the headliner?

Because mine just mount solid to the floor, and only spool up into the roof, and I thought only 4th gen's were like that...

That sounds like my seatbelts in my 82 bird. Mounts solid to the door sill/floor and retracts from the roof only.

Re: 4th Gen Seatbelts, weird issues...

I actually got this resolved. It was pretty weird actually...

I bought an entire ebony 4th gen set off ebay (front and rear), and the 4th gen "latches" fit my existing belts (which I was pretty sure were 4th gen belts).

Here's the weird thing, why did the 4th gen ones out of the wrecking yard not fit????

Go figure.
