interior panel variations

interior panel variations
In particular, the rear cargo area.
Trying to figure out is there is any different between the rear cargo interior trim panels for a early car (82-84) or a later car (85-92). Some have suggested there is.
If I bought a rear panel for 84, would it fit in a 92?
Also, what is the purpose of the exposed contacts on later cars with the trunk pull down. My 92 has the pull down motor but not the exposed contacts to the left of the latch.

Re: interior panel variations
If you have a power hatch pulldown then you will need a rear panel from an 86-92 car.82-85 will not fit due to the fact that they used a manual latch which was much smaller and the panel doesnt have a big enough cut out to fit a hatch motor

im pretty sure they mount differently too. I dot think 82 - 84 had the giant plactic screws in them. Like my82roc said if you have a 92 the 82 - 84 panel wont fit the power hatch motor

They mount the same. There are also some differences amongst the early rear panels. Some panels have a hole for a locating pin, while others have no hole. There is also a panel used in the Berlinettas that have some sort of switch that are located in a different area as well.

Re: interior panel variations
As for the exposed contacts, the reason the 92 doesn't have any is because there is no reason for there to be any. The 2 outer contacts are generally for a hatch-mounted high mount brake light (under the spoiler), and I would think the inner ones would be for a hatch wiper motor (which was killed long before 92, I believe, never seen one so I can't be positive). Most panels also have a switch next to the light back there (later cars used a switch on the latch to turn the light on and off). Early panels may or probably also have different speaker cutouts (sails, of course).

Re: interior panel variations
thanks for everyone's input....
It looks like the exposed contacts ended in 89... I was thinking about trying to find a rear cargo locking cover to install in my car. To do that you need to pair the rear panel with locking cover. Easier to find in the earlier interiors, especially since it was standard in the berlinettas.
It seems to find a locking cover AND rear panel that would work for a 92, i really am looking for a set from 90-92. Seems almost impossible given the low production numbers (barely over 100 for 92!)

I have a black rear cargo cover along with the matching rear hatch panel from an 89 RS.It does have the hole for the contacts though
