What can I use for Headlight-Headlamp Switch Nut?
My car is an 82 z28 and I just replaced the headlight (headlamp) switch and harness but the plastic nut is stripped. Will any GM one fit or is there something else I can use?
I found a thirdgen Camaro one on ebay but the price is crazy, I would rather come up with something cheaper (there are some listed for other GMs much cheaper).

third gens are non-existent in our local JYs. Is the thread the same for any GM car? I am guessing the different shape of ours was just to aid in assembly but I do not want to go hunting until I know what to hunt for (plus they are dirt cheap for other GM cars on ebay as well).

I had the same problem and fixed it by getting a bolt with the same thread as the threads in the headlight switch (sorry I can't remember, but it was a standard one I found at Lowes), then drilled out the center so the headlight **** shaft could pass through. The plastic bolt is junk after this many years, and the steel bolt will last forever.

Re: What can I use for Headlight-Headlamp Switch Nut?
Just thought I would close things off on this thread (always hate that threads are full of questions and suggestions but they never have the final answer...).
Every source I tried for the Camaro one wanted too much money for the part or way too much for shipping. I ended up picking up a one for a Corvette (C4) on ebay for $5 (looked brand new), worked perfect!
Sad when a "corvette" part is less than 1/4 the price of the same part for a Camaro!

Re: What can I use for Headlight-Headlamp Switch Nut?
I have a 1994 Mercury Topaz and the headlight switch nut was broken when I got the car. I couldn't find a replacement nut anywhere. A friend of my father-in-laws went to a hardware store and they bought a brass fitting with both ends threaded and a stationary nut in between the threads. It also comes with a loose nut for each end and the hole for the **** shaft is already there. One side of the threads fits the other side does not.
All you have to do is put one of the loose nuts on the end that doesn't fit to have something to grip so you can screw it in better, then screw the end that fits into the switch box and then put your **** back in.
It works great even if it's just for a temporary fix, it will hold it until you can find a new switch nut.
I hope this helps those of you who need it.
