I have caught a glimpse of this in a few other threads and thought I would share my successful implementation of a cupholder in my IROC.

First, I hit ebay up and found a 3" cupholder from a seller named 'sreading' for 2.98 + 2.64 priority mail shipping. Total came to $5.62.

Then, I found a drill bit with an adjustable blade for cutting holes in my basement and cut a hole in my basically perfect condition center console. Centered everything out, cut the hole, and dropped the cupholder in for a nice, tight fit. No adhesives (in case it needs to be replaced for whatever reason). Holds a can of soda perfectly (not many cans make it into the car) and also holds my Samsung Captivate cell phone perfectly, too! It's nice to have an actual spot to put things now - why didn't they do this from the factory?!

Cool. Mine has one too from the previous owner, although anything bigger than a soda can gets in the way of shifting gears in mine.

Like the raised lip on that one, that would be great for fountain pops. I think it would work great in an auto since you don't have to shift.

the down side to the stick, it gets in the way of the radio and cupholder in the armrest mod.

That is the cup holder insert I put in my car. I trimmed the bottom so it would sit flush (Like the first picture) but it sometimes slips into the hole.

I want to get the cupholder that plasmeh got, but haven't found one. Ebay hasn't crossed my mind though. I'll give it a shot.

I like how in the cupholder installed picture you were able to get out of your car and take a pic while the car was running at 5k rpm's lol. I keed.

I really like this idea though, I just get shivers thinking about cutting a hole in MY perfect condition center console :/

Why didn't Chevrolet do this originally? Because in the 80s, driving was just that, driving. You weren't supposed to be eating, drinking, putting on makeup, talking on cell phones, etc. When you drove a car, you drove the car!!! Today, people want cup holders, heated glove boxes for food warming, hands free cell phone crap, etc. We have more distracted drivers today than ever before. Today's cars will also park themselves, brake automatically if you get too close to the other car, sound alarms if you cross the center lane with another car present and who knows what else. Nobody really knows how to just drive and be in full control and alert to their surroundings anymore. The car will do it all for them. woohoo, what fun is that?

I agree, there is a reason my car doesn't have cup holders. I don't allow drinks in my car unless it has a cap like a bottled water.

its still that way in other countries. in germany you have to pay a large amount of money to even get as license, and you can loose it over causing an accident. so over there they still drive and pay attention to the road. its also why you dont see many drive throughs either. the auto baun is famous for having stretches with no speed limits, yet theres less accidents per year on it, then any average american highway....i wonder why...

I say to each their own. To many people, their cars are an extension of their own personality. If you want a cupholder, get a cupholder. I think yellow cars are for girls, but I can still admire a guy who pampers his yellow Camaro. I think a completely stock car is kind of boring, yet I still admire them at car shows for the work put into keeping them that way. I would rather see a car that has had lots of upgrades and modifications to check out. Everyone has different tastes and passions, that's what keeps the auto industry alive. Otherwise we would all be driving some gay *** electric or hybrid car that gets 100 mpg.

Yellow and white were my first two color choices when I was looking for a Camaro in 1986. I guess the dealer had none because the girls bought them all! Blue was actually my 3rd choice. I wasn't interested in a red or black Camaro, so I guess we all have our prejudices.

This is the reason I put it in my car in the first place. My phone fits nicely, keys, and change all fit well and cut down on clutter. My car isn't a beater - more of a street/strip/show car, so I didn't exactly put it in there with the idea of a can of Coke sloshing around. I do, however, let people eat in my car as long as they respect the fact that I'm trying to keep it spotless as much as possible. I've never had anything spilled.

Personally, I wouldn't mind having a cup holder in my car. But not for the purpose of having a drink with me to drink while driving. It's more of, if I go get something to eat to bring home it'd be nice to not have to use a cardboard cup holder in the passenger seat and have to constantly worry about it tipping over.

That said, I'd never put it in front of my shifter like that! Nothing gets between me and my shifter hehe

I like 58mark's design / position, it just doesn't look capable of holding anything bigger than that water bottle in the picture. And I usually get a large drink when I go out to get dinner =p

Oh well guess I'll just have to stick to using the cardboard cup holder for now.

It does, but if you get a cup that's too tall, it can get a bit top heavy. This kind of cup is fine, but there are some with small bases that are supposed to be "car friendly" that I don't trust

NICE!! Did that come factory or did you fab that in there? I used to have one just like that in my 92 Z24. The brushes on the right holder worked really well for holding smaller cups.

Back from the dead... I know the last post was 2011...

Can anyone that has installed a cup holder in this location behind the window and hatch buttons in a later year, auto trans, Camaro, tell me how much room there actual is under there, before running into the drive shaft tunnel, or wiring or whatever is under there? I haven't been in there since I installed my B&M shifter maybe 15 years ago, so I don't remember. I want to be aware before drilling and I'm trying to decide between the deeper 3" cup holder or the shallower 2" deep one. Thanks!

Tell me about your gauges there in your dash? I need something different than the stock gauges. Also, my factory steering wheel looks like it fought a weed eater

Not sure if your comment was directed to me. If so, my gauges are just the factory 90-92 gauges. And yes, my steering wheel has seen better days. There was a little tear when I got the car 20 years ago, and that's where my hand rests, so the tear grew over the years... I've got more important stuff to spend money on anyway...

My IROC is white. White, high performance cars with black accents are my favorite
