1991 Firebird automatic **** broke off!!
Hi im new to thirdgen, this is my first post. Bear with me hehe.
Ok so here's a little background on my car: It used to be my uncle's but he moved out of town and gave me the car, the car has been sitting for a long time now, and it has some minor mechanincal issues. I want to start restoring it but today I twisted the **** around (I know it was stupid haha) and it broke off, now I tried putting it back, I twisted and tried to push down on it, no use. The transmission is automotic. Any advice?
Thank you!

Re: 1991 Firebird automatic **** broke off!!
the **** is held in by a "U" shaped clip thats on the lower shaft portion of the **** in the front, facing the radio. Its in a small slit, running horizontal, about 1/2" long and about 1/16 wide. you probably broke the clip or stripped it. See if its still in the ****, pry it out with a small flat blade screwdriver and try again. If the clip is broken, you will have to get a new one from another car.

Re: 1991 Firebird automatic **** broke off!!
I'm pretty sure it's the clip, because the **** is normal, just not connected, there was a little white-yellowish stick like spring inside. Yes the clip sorta just flew off and now I can't find it. I'll try and get some pics later, thanks for all your help.

Re: 1991 Firebird automatic **** broke off!!
The previous owner did the same thing to my car. I just use it broken because I'm too lazy to go to the junk yard and find the piece. If anyone can find somewhere I can buy the clip online that would be great.

Re: 1991 Firebird automatic **** broke off!!
you cant shift out of park while car is in park and no key. try putting the key in and turning it over like youre going to start it and press the brake and see if itll shift out of park then. you cant just get in and shift it out of park with out the key turned over. its a security feature almost all cars have nowadays

I think it is, it's cheap too so even if it isn't that one I didn't waste much, is it a safe website to shop?

I think they are a site sponsor. I found out about them on here maybe 3 years ago. I have bought from them 3, maybe 4 times and have never had a problem.

$2.59 for that clip? That's insanely overpriced considering it's just a small bit of bent metal. Thing will run you a quarter at any junkyard.

It doesn't have to be out of another third gen. Automatic fiero's have the same clip and there are other gm cars with similar shift *****.
