85 camaro Rear Cargo Shade Install

Hello all. I would like to know if anybody here either has or had a Rear Cargo Shade in the car and if so do you have photos of how it was mounted? I have one and I installed it but something doesnt seem right so I am not useing it at the moment but it is in the car. What I am talking about is were the round plastic end pieces go into the rear above the back seats. I have them in but I can seem to make them solid and not twist when I pull the shade. Any help would be great.

Post up a picture and i can tell you where it is wrong and not setup right. There should be to mounts right under the where the hatch lifts go into place to lift the hatch. there black you drop it in and twist it.

Re: 85 camaro Rear Cargo Shade Install

You have one of the items in the pic on each side?
They fit in a large hole in the plastic panel about 4 1/2 inches center to center of the hatch lift support bolt.
They go through the hole and screw into the sheet metal of the inner structure.
Then on the hatch there is a bracket that the shade hooks to but this does not sound like what you're having an issue with.

Yes I have the side mounts installed but they twist a little when I pull the shde out. I had to cut out the plastic to mount them, I dont have them screwed into the sheet metal, I didnt know thats were they screwed to. So thats were my problem is. When we thaw out from the ice I will do it.
I would like to see were I screw them in, would you have a photo

Re: 85 camaro Rear Cargo Shade Install

I don't recall if there was a short bracket or they just screwed to the steel panel behind it.
No, I don't have a pic and I'm not taking apart my car for one either.

I am sorry for ripping on you. But I didnt ask you to take anything apart. So thats was not nessary to say you went going to. As you recall all I asked was were it screwed to to keep it from moving, I didnt ask you to do any more than share a photo IF you had one. I have it mounted and it does work. I just need to see what metal brace you were talking about because there isnt anything close to it. And even on cars that it didnt come on, the rear plastic were it mounts has a pattern that all that needs to be done is to cut it out, but there is nothing to screw the end caps on.
Now if you dont want to help thats fine,LOL because I can find the info.
I was hoping that there was somebody here that may had just did an install of one of these, and that it would be freash in the mind.

Re: 85 camaro Rear Cargo Shade Install

Hello everone, I was wondering if any one might know where I could get a new bracket for my cargo cover. I have all parts but the end peice that the cover pulls through is broke. It is the complete end that hooks into the body bracket. I hope i explained that ok...

Well I am not sure what end piece you are talking about. Go to this thread and then point out what you mean.

Now as far as I know you can find the end caps on ebay, but if the ends on the shade itself are busted you may have to get a whole new shade.

Re: 85 camaro Rear Cargo Shade Install

Thank you for answering my Q.. It is the end of the shade itself. But the piece had a cap with two screws that fit the piece on to shade. It should be a part that can be replaced. So If anyone might know where I could find this piece would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

That's why on my thread of the Hatch Cover install I had those metal brackets screwed into the body, because my IROC doesnt have the mounting spot that the other member is describing. Some Camaro's have that mounting plate that the "cup" can mount onto with 2 little self taping screws. But mine did not have that mounting plate which is why I put the strap ( https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...tallation.html ).

Re: 85 camaro Rear Cargo Shade Install

Also the "cups" are twisting when you pull the curtain out because of 2 things, the notches on the plastic panels are too large and or the "cups" are not screwed down to the bosy panel that SHOULD be there if equipt. But if the mounting plate is not there, then you will have to do what I did and install a metal strap.

I would suggest taking a picture and then ask Denny which is the owner of ThirdgenRanch.com. He is also a vendor here in the boards. On the upper tabs, select "vendors" and scroll down until you find "ThirdGen Ranch." then post a picture of your broken piece and he'll help you out. He may take a while to respond but the guy is very bussy. So be patient. Here is a link to webpage. http://thirdgenranch.com/StoreFront.bok

you really need to take a picture of the part you are talking about. There are a few pieces that are involved with the rear hatch cover. There are 2 cups that insert into the plastic panels, 1 shade/curtain assembly, and the glass hatch underside plastic that has metal bracket riveted to latch the curtain. I am more than willing to help out a fellow member but pictures would make things more clearer when explained.

Re: 85 camaro Rear Cargo Shade Install

There are steel brackets under the plastic panels, for the mount screws. Most cars have the brackets spot welded to the body, but some are just riveted. The best way to install the cover, is to get the brackets from the donor car. If they're riveted, drill the rivets, or use a cold chisel and a hammer to cut the rivets. If they're welded you'll either need a spot weld cutter or a chisel. Then use pop rivets to install on the project car.

Re: 85 camaro Rear Cargo Shade Install

I wanted to remove the plastic panels from the donor car that I found but everytime I called the owner, he wouldnt answer his phone. So I figured that he didnt want me on his property anymore. Its all good now though. Im done. I just need to figure out why the curtain doesnt retract. So I made another thread just for that issue.
