Red or Black Interior
So im slowly coming along with my little project, but im stuck at interior color. the car isn an 86 iroc. The exterior color will be red (just dont ask what shade) *original was red as well* the original color of the interior was red. i get my cage back from powder coating friday and installed that weekend. after that id really like to get most of the interior done, i just cant decide on red or black. i personally like both, but imo there can be a thing as TO MUCH red. i have looked at two toning the interior, and imo, it just doesnt look right, so id rather go with 1 or the other. so any semi recent pics of either color would help.

Black. Too much red is just that, too much! I never really liked two toned with red and black either.

While I don't really usually like solid red, I think mostly red interior with just enough black accents to make it two toned could be really cool.

Re: Red or Black Interior
Mine was originally red exterior red interior, I took out the the red interior to have it reupolstered and installed a black interior to get me around needless to say many years later its still black because I like the way it matches with the rest of the interior. Red door panels black seats and black door handles ...............never did get around to get the red seats done.

Re: Red or Black Interior
I won't have pics until I'm done in another few weeks, but basically, mine is factory red interior. I'm installing brand new red carpet and will be freshening up some of the red plastics. However, the new seats going in are black leather and the seat belts will be black as well. Almost anything will match when you consider that EVERYONE has black center consoles and dashes. I suggest doing interior image searches online to get some ideas.

Re: Red or Black Interior
i have been looking online 4 probably 2-3 months now, specially 4 a 2-tone look. i have even went to physically look at gto's, vettes and mustangs and see how they do their red/black interior. and while they look really nice, the problem i see is the cars are more "curvy" so their interiors flow with the lines of the car. where as a 3rd gen, is more boxy. so the curvy lines wont really "fit" it. i am getting some black rear seats, and i have some black fabric i can use as carpet. so i may try this weekend.

Re: Red or Black Interior
Agreed. I had a red on red 86 iroc (dark red ext...carmine interior). I loved the color combo. If you think it will be too much red why not replace the carpet with black and leave everything else red? The red carpet is really what gets dirty and scummy looking anyways so black will hide all that.

Re: Red or Black Interior
Something to consider may be fading...red is one of the colors which tends to discolor fastest especially if the car is sitting outside all the time. We had a red interior in our old 'Vette and through the years it began to get more orange-ish in appearance (more so with the carpet slash anything cloth).
I like the suggestions of black with some red detailing...it would make the car pop without making it overwhelming.

Re: Red or Black Interior
Guess I'm the only one who's voted for Red so far...just sick of seeing poorly done interior color changes to black with overly-shiny dyed trim and the un-dyeable seatbelts that are always the original color. Working at a independent dealer that only sells used Corvettes, I've seen a TON of interiors that used to be another color and are now black, but I've yet to see one done right. Anytime I see a 68-82 car (Corvette) with black interior, my first thought is "I wonder what color it used to be". A red interior car is usually going to stand out more and get you more compliments if it's in nice condition as you rarely see nice red interiors on any car. I can't stand the black interior in my '02. Would have rather had any other available color. It's just boring. Not to mention hot.

Re: Red or Black Interior
I vote black. Not just b/c my 86 interior is black but when buying a car I always look for black or dark grey (not counting my hideous blue interior in a sentra I once owned or the maroon in the RX-7 I had) I just think dark interiors look the best. That said, I think Orr89RocZs' interior looks pretty good.

Re: Red or Black Interior
I personally love a red interior. Thought I think having black trim nicely compliments the red. I swapped my interior to red and have received MANY compliments on it. The only thing about a red interior and the ONLY reason why I voted for black instead is because red interiors only go well with certain body colors. Pretty much just red and other colors along that spectrum cars unless your going for a bolder look then you can venture into black and white lol. Because my car is a daily driver my cars tend to get their fair share of battle scars and when it comes time to repaint ide love to try some new color schemes but am really restricted by my interior color. And For this reason and this reason alone I think my next interior will be black. Although if your looking for something to be flashy and eye catching I dont think anything has that effect more than a well done bright red interior (pure white being a close second).

Mine is all charcoal except my seats, which are 2tone and match perfectly. It's just enough red without overdoing it IMO. My car is red too.

Re: Red or Black Interior
for subroc. nice interior, i havnt seen that design and it turned out pretty nice. if you brought the red all the way down to where the back meets the seat it would flow with out a break to be capped of by the back on top and bottom. same with the rears. looks good what fabric did you use?

Re: Red or Black Interior
I voted black. I personally think red interiors are the worst color, although black w/red piping on the seats would probably be pretty cool. I wanna do black w/white piping on my seats...
