I saw that my seat brakets, or what every you wanna call them, are a bit rusty. Its not a big deal, but I was thinking of painting them black. I got this textured black paint for my licence plate frames, which were chrome. (pics below) I was wondering if anyone else did this.

Also I never removed a seat before, and was wondering if it was hard, and if there is a lil tutorial some where on this site?

Move the seat forward/rearward to access both the plastic end caps, and under them, the four bolts that hold the seat in place.

i removed all the plastic caps,then pulled the seat out with my handy dandy 13mm 12 point socket on a 3/8 reversible ratchet wrench.i used 2" tape and taped up the sides of the seat. i used a piece of scotchbrite pad and scuffed up all the metal surfaces,then took a spray can of semi gloss black and went to town.they look great,but i dont have pics.

no clear coat .that would make it to glossy for my taste.

OER makes black paint in all of the correct factory sheen levels. Their Factory Black paints come in ultra flat, low gloss, semi gloss and high gloss sheen and they also have a kit that includes all four of the sheen levels so that way you always have the correct sheen on hand. I've got a full set in my garage that I use for small restoration jobs like brackets, underhood areas, etc. I also use it on the old bicycles I restore. A lot of over the counter paints are either too glossy or too flat.

LOL! Well, I am sure there are other brands out there too. However, I can only vouch for the stuff that I have actually used.

thanks, i think i might save some money and buy spray paint from homedepot or walmart lol

i removed the brackets from the seat and sprayed em with fill n' flex bumper paint. its flat black and looks decent

I did mine years ago, but also no pics.Before you paint them though.Spray some rust converter on them.Itll turn the rust a black color & stop it from spreading.Alot easier than sanding them.There are also some plastic trim pieces on 4th gens you can use that will cover up the manual seat tracks.

anyone no how to remove the top plastic tab in the third pic down? so i can get to the lower plastic tab below it.

You cant it remove unless you take the seat off first.Its sandwiched between the seat frame & seat track.You also dont need to remove it to take the seat off.If you look at the lower cover there is a screw holding it down.Take the screw off & remove the nut.Repeat on the other three & the seat comes off.

but on that one side the top plastic tab is covering the screw in the bottom plastic tab...

i have the seats all the way back...they are all the way back in the pic, and they are always all the way back. I like them that way.

so anyone no how to fix that top tab....yes i moved the seat back, im thinking of just drilling a hole in it to get to the lower screw
