I wonder if I could just splice in the new connector to make the new style airbag functional?

Would look good if you brought the dash along too. I doubt it would be as easy as splicing the connector. You may end up with your sensors speaking English, and the air bag speaking German.

The new Camaro will most likely have a dual stage air bag, so I doubt you can just cut and splice it in since it would have 2 connectors.

If I can't utilize the air-bag, then I wont order it. I would then just unplug the air-bag dummy light in the cluster.... I will probably order the one without the steering wheel controls as well if possible.

Hmm would look intresting, but don't know how much work it would take or if the sunk in face would look right. Also how would/are you order it? If you do it would like to see pic.
They just don't make easy upgrade steering wheels for are car (with airbags). I recently got a catalog from summit and they had this in a flier that came with it

Wonder if these could be mod to fit and work with are cars.

I've seen those from Grant too, but I think I am going the no airbag route. I do like the 5th gen one too, but wouldn't want to mess with splicing the airbag. Hate to think it worked then all of a sudden BOOM!!!

id take the dash to lol. looks nice as hell. how much is that steering wheel going for? you guys realize in 10 years were gonna be takin parts off the 5th gen just like we do now with the 4th gen. think our cars are gonna look sweet with a full 5th gen interior swap

i dont think the 5th gen dash would work tho, look at the doors! the doors match and flow with the dash, so i dont think it would work tbh but i like the dash tho

HAHA, the fifth gen camaros aren't even stocked fully in dealers, they aren't even out for 4 months and we're already looking at swaps for our third gens. lol, somone post help about the 5th gen seats on my thread, I kinda need feedback on it cause I really really want those seats in my 91 RS

Yea I want those seats in my 91 too. In fact, thats what brought me to this thread, this early in the morning (a pic of 5th gen seats). And here I came to post a joke - "When we gonna get some pics of 5th gen interiors in our 3rd gens?" - only to find the board hard at work on it already :P

I really doubt many of the 5th gen parts will swap over at all. The reason so many 3rd and 4th gen parts are interchangable is just because they're really the same chassis with a few minor modifications. Just like how the first and second gen cars are so similar. And look at how many 2nd gen parts swap over.

Good luck doing a dash swap, but I dont see it happening.

i like the wheel - not fond of the stock 90 wheel - big - fat - airbag. need a nicer wheel some day.
will those controls work with the stock radio and tape?
i dont like the cd i put in so out it will come soon. i will put in a place to plug in my ipod.

Probably a complicated swap. But why would you want to replace the stock, gorgeous, leather wrapped, three spoke, with the 5th gen's dorky bumper car wheel? JMHO.

EDIT: Whoops, just realised that you have a '91. I still think the 5th gen wheel is ugly though.

Same thing was said for the

LT1 heads on a gen 1 sbc
LT1 intake on a gen 1 sbc

4thGen dash and harness in a 3rdgen with working 4thgen guages, etc...

All said I doubt it will work back in the day.

All have been done.

Give someone the parts and will to want it done and it can be. Im sure it will be. ONLY A MATTER OF TIME!

The will probably wont work. I pulled a wheel from a 2002 Grand am GT. Its sweet but it has different groves that slide on the column and they dont line up like the older ones do.

couldn't you use adapters? I'm not sure if they make them specifically for this kinda swap yet but maybe a friend of mine can fab some up

Someone on this board is rocking a 5th gen already im sure. Why not have this person measure the dash and post the results. We will then know how much of a challenge it would be to get these parts in.

If you look at a newer GM steering wheel you will see what I mean. They also require a different wheel puller. They don't center out like the old ones because the horn controls are in a different place.

It's not the measurements im doubting , its the way the steering wheel mounts.

Have a look at the "teeth" on this wheel (02 GA) then compare to your stock wheel





I thought about filing the 'missing' grooves in but im nervous messing around with it.

I see what you mean. I thought you were telling me about the wheels, as in actually rims. haha oh well. but yeah, I say go for it, try it out. if it doesn't work, use your stock steering wheel

Back from the depths... because I just found a 2010 camaro steering wheel with airbag at a local junkyard. I may disable the airbag and pull the airbag light out of the cluster. Might have to cut/weld to blend the two to make it work...

1bad91Z, you may want to grab the whole column with the wheel. If the splines on the steering shaft in the column don't line up, I would think that grafting the two shafts together might work.
