I just reupholstered my door panels with some leftover leather I had. I´m quite happy with the results and the leather is a perfect match to the 02 TA Ebony interior i´m installing in my 89 RS

It actually looks better in real life, its just hard to to take a photo of it because of its dark color, and the reflections show all crimps...

What type of foam did you use behind the material?

I have found if you use the thin stuff (less than 1/4")

and use the adhesive as well, it becomes uneven
it gives it a dimpled effect

Would like to see it in the car with the armrest, window crank and thee rest of the plastic on.

I´m a newbie to upholstering, so this was mostly driven by imagination... I don´t know what this foam is called, but its similar to the one thats original on the panel. I bought it from my local upholstery shop, this is what he uses on leather couches and that kind of stuff.
I sprayed adhesive all over the panel, foam and fabric... I was thinking only to glue the edges but thought it would come sloppy by time.. You think I should rather have done it that way?

einarak, you did a decent job. I just did the same thing, going from the exact tan color (different style though) to a black panel. I used an edge trim from this place for my panels:

im redoing my interior too, im using white vinyl that my father still had in rolls from the early 80s. awhile back i did my t-top rs with leopard **** and i still have the speaker covers and door panels, plus the headliner. but i couldnt use that in my z28 because its a hardtop. so i think im just going to go with the white vinyl for the door panels. im still wrking on them though. ive done a lot of other stuff though.i plan on doing the center console bottom too where the carpeted part is. then the kick panels, and all the spots that used to have carpet on the back and rear plastics. check out the pics. any constructive advice anyone ?

is that carpet on the bottom? mind telling me how much that stuff is?

and did you just fold it under it self and sewed it?
how does that look in person? ( like is there a bump or anything?)

Thats a teflon coated automotive carpet, I bought one 55x 24 inch piece for around 25$.

yes thats exactly how i did it, and then cut the fabrics close enough to the sewing so there is almoust no bump. There is more visual bump where the leather pieces are sewet to gether on the upper part. Beside the door armrest covers about 50% of the middle line when the panel is in place so thats less to worry about.

Straightening out the warped top plastic piece is kind of tricky, though

Broke 3 of them the first 3 attemps, but got it down pat now.

I am currently redoing my 91 GTA, I will post pics as I get them done

Thank you, I´ve already done the driverside panel. I´m having iltle trouble with the top plastic on that one, I broke off few of the pins that hold it to the panel becouse it has some kind of really stuck "one way" shims...

einarak, those "shims" are actually like thin nuts. You need to unscrew or back them off carefully from the plastic pins. If you're not carefull you'll strip the plastic post and the nut won't grip anymore.
For straightening out a top plastic trim piece I find a heat gun to be my friend.
