It looks like there is glue comming of on the center console of my86 trans Am.
So now the sides are bowing from the rest of the console.
What is the best way to fix this?

lol...when all else fails, duck tape everything, and ask questions later....lol

I wish I knew what you could try, maybe like model glue and just try and press it together or set up some vice grips for pressure. It might also be easier to see what is going on with it, if you pull it out?

you could try using some headliner spray adhesive and then clamp the vinyl to the side till it dries. or you could try the ideas laid out in this tech article

it is written for the side armrests, but the problem is very similar.
Good luck with whatever you try, My console had been poorly repaired by a previous owner (read:drywall screws) so I replaced my console with a camaro one, which is extreme but worked LOL

I think I know what you are talking about but, you would need to clean off any loose foam/glue and then use a real strong glue on it like window channel adhesive sp? the two part black stuff by 3M - is what works for just about anything home or auto use a clamp and boards so you don't end up with odd marks from the clamp on the sides when the glue dries.

i threw mine away and bought a new one...

but before i did that i used a real tacky silicon adhesive and clamped the heck out of things and it worked pretty well

When someone broke in stole my radio they just pulled the center console apart so I bought another one from the classified section of this forum, Not a bad way to go. You could also try E-bay or the Junk yards.

The polyurethane adhesives are really awesome. Look in the woodworking glue area of your local store. You need to spray some water on one side of what you are attaching since it needs moisture to cure. Be careful it foams up as it is curing but will stick almost anything to anything. I used it to glue my console back together and it worked great. Just a few woodworking clamps and some pieces of wood to hold it all straight as the glue cures. Careful, it can get messy, I taped wax paper in places I didn't want the glue to stick to.

That is the part number for a new console assembly.

Is that the part # I would use to buy the part from GM or something. How much does one of those go for. I have only seen astronomical prices. The other weird thinng is that the arm rest is equal value to the whole console!

I had this problem, I cleaned it off, gorilla glued it, then clamped it, the next day I took the clamps off and it stayed, but I wish I read this first, because I didnt do what 88 350 tpi formula said and use a board, so mine looks pretty bad, but it worked

they have that gorllia gule out now get some claps and use that glue i did it to my arm rest where it was comming apart n it worked fine
