Wow....what a cool find!

I remember Scott Moyer saying he had to peel off that aluminum backing to reuse it on his new insulation on his Pace Car. This is probably a MUST HAVE for anyone that has a mint, low mile crossfire car with the fiberglass hood.....and they're never gonna find another one!

Same here. I got one of those ill fitting ones from eBay. I had to trim it and make new holes. I peeled the old heat shield off of my original insulation and used it. In the end, it still didn't look OEM. When I found this one, I knew 10 years ago it was the last in the world, and I never had the nerve to put it on my 100K mile '83. This one should go to a mint low mile car or a restoration. I also had new OEM GM blue floor mats I didn't want to ruin and just sold those last week. As well as my blue L/S Conteur interior.

Seems like someone should use this to make a mold. Then try to start reproducing these.

Honestly, I believe that will never happen. Shipping to a local GM dealer for pick up used to be free. The molded OEM hood insulations have to be shipped as if they were hoods.

Re: Last Known NEW OEM Crossfire Hood Insulation On the Planet!

Just an update. This part was sold and is going on the Gordon Johncock '82 Pace Car, which is nearly restored and will appear at this year's Indy race on it's 40th anniversary. This is exactly the car I would have wanted this NOS part to go to.

Re: Last Known NEW OEM Crossfire Hood Insulation On the Planet!

Also, do you guys remember the 4 mile IROC? The person who was getting it operational had a long thread here on TGO. The hood insulator he got from GM back then, (I now believe they all carry the same part numbers regardless of application), was this one When he unpacked it, he saw the aluminum backing and holes for the functional hood scoops. Obviously it wasn't the right part for his car, so I bought from him immediately.

Here you go. Also, apparently the part number is not unique. I had someone contact me while the ad was up saying that they have one too, with the same part number and asked them to send pics. It was for the LG4 fiberglass hood. Same part number, obviously different part.

My 89 needs a hood liner.. and I was wondering. But that is completely different.

Re: Last Known NEW OEM Crossfire Hood Insulation On the Planet!

So, you have the last cross-fire hood insulation and Keith (4.3 mile IROC-Z) got the last IROC-Z insulation. I think he paid $55 for it. I knew I should have gotten one for my IROC-Z when the dealers still had them. My pace car was an LG4 so this hood pad would not work for me at the time.

I got it from Keith. The wrong one came in, this one, and he posted pics of it on the 4.3 mile IROC thread and I bought it. I think I paid him $100 back then.

BTW, this part went to the restoration of Gordon Johncock's '82 Pace Car.
