its auto dimming to keep your eyes from getting blasted by peoples headlights.

Thats pretty interesting. Its the first time I've seen one specifically from a Thirdgen. I usually keep an eye out for "a cool rearview" at the boneyard since I've been looking to replace mine...Thaks for the info.

I have like 5 of those mirrors.Besides thirdgens Ive also seen them in cadillacs and trofeos

I've actually seen a couple of fords/thunderbirds with something like that at the jk, but I think what those did is dim the headlights for oncoming cars...there was a light sensor infront of the rearview....

Yeah but besides the dimming feature these actually move when you spin the dial.Thats what the distance function does if you find a working one
