Someone point me in the right direction if I'm missing it, but the most data I can find over my Dad's single owner Trans Am (27,800 mi) that is now mine.
For the longest time I knew the car was driven off the dealership lot when it was delivered, with Black Exterior, Black Rims.
I was always in doubt about the car coming from the factory with Black exterior paint 41U and Black Cross lace rims 19P, until I looked at the RPO's to Austin's 3rd gen size and see that sticker maintained the alignment.
I did see that in 1988 403 Trans Am's were produced with (Approx) the L98, interesting to see the motor choice so low.
The other options or not options to the car were;
Analog gauge set
No power Door locks
No power Windows
Power Antenna
Hard Top
WS4 &WS6 options
Australian 9 bolt
Aluminum drive shaft
I don't know what the seats are but they are non-powered and have the adjustable (fore and aft) head rest.
The photo of the cars is a few years old, I only say that because my Camaro is almost out from under the knife with updates for that are on the FM Thirdgen Firebird and Camaro page where I usually post a bit more.
But, I figured I would throw this out and see if anyone had better data to the combination since the VIN didn't come up in Compine or whatever that site is.

Pontiac records show 3049 1988 Trans Ams with the the black pw7 wheel. In contrast, I have a white 1988 Trans Am with white pw7 wheels. There was also a red pw7 wheel as an option on red Trans Ams.
Pontiac records also show 966 1988 Trans Ams with the the AQ9 seats, which are more commonly known as GTA seats since they were standard on the GTA but optional on the Trans Am.
All 1988 GTAs and Trans Ams with the 350 would be hardtop from the factory.

Lots of nuances with the numbers. Where are your references coming from? I can't remember where I saw a number of 403 with L98, but it seems off a little if all TA/GTA came with the L98. lol
Almost it's current state, btw. The heads are at the engine shop currently, compression was good.
Dad told me somewhere around the 18000 mi area it overheated, not sure how much, overtemp, but when I took the accessory brackets off the paint trapped behind the alternator bracket had completely dis-adheared itself from the head and fell to the ground in one piece.
If the heads are bad I'm probably going to set the original K member and trans to the side and put my fresh LY6 with a stage 2 TSP cam in and add a 4L80 to it.
Thinking this route currently because I have the money in a fresh motor and can come back and put all the emissions and original harness back in later.
I'm supposed to find out Friday what condition the heads are in to make the decision of keeping it 95% stock or having a second LS thirdgen. I'm hoping the heads aren't cracked to keep it nostalgic at this point...

P.S. the angle of the photo makes the car look like it's leaning back, it's not. the rear lift arms are on the LCA frame mount to counter the weight change.

JT was correct: 406 L98 units for the 1988 Trans Am. To be clear, in 1988, all Trans Ams did NOT come with L98 engines. That model year, there were over 4,000 Trans Ams with the L03, and over 4,300 with the LB9. The 1988 GTA could come with the LB9 or L98 (3,439 / 7,779). Yours is kinda rare, no?
The Austin page has so much bad information. It is close, but not exactly right. Also the RPOs they seem to have listed are lacking. For the Camaro RPOs it appears they just got the data from the Camaro White Book. Which is fine, but not a complete list.

You're right, there are a lot more known RPOs for every year. The quantities may not be known, but the RPOs and definitions are known.
