1989 IROC

Question for the group. In 1989 did Chevy produce the IROC with a carb’d 305? Saw one in town and after talking to the guy he opened the hood. I was a little surprised not to see a 5.7 TPI, wasnt sure they still put the 305s in the IROCs then but maybe I’m wrong???

side note the catalyst sticker said 5.0

Re: 1989 IROC

Looks like he had a LO3 setup. I probably mistaked the EFI for a carb, it was dark and couldn’t see much. But yep it was an LO3 after a google image search.

Re: 1989 IROC

Last year for a carb in these cars was 87. 305 continued through the end of their existence (92). Most IROCs had 305s of one sort or another throughout the existence of that badge package. And yes, the TBI (L03) looks alot like a carb, if you don't take off the air cleaner lid.

Re: 1989 IROC

Good info, thanks! Curious but if one could rough guess, out of all the IROCs any idea what percentage had the 5.7 TPI? I know the production numbers are out there I just don’t feel like sifting through old data to tame my own curiosity.

Re: 1989 IROC

There were different #s in the different years from 87 to 92, but overall, a rough (VERY rough) guess might be 20% or so.
