Front seat assembly
I took the drivers seat apart on the 89 Camaro today to see if I could improve the fitment of the bottom cover. Leather was stretched & wrinkly & it just looked poor over all. While taking it apart I was surprised to see the listing wire at the rear was not at all connected to the frame of the seat.
Was this intentional, or accidental? I could not see any reason for this so to be sitting loose so I attached it. It improved the fit, so along with tightening up the bottom support wires it does look much better now. Any idea why this was not attached originally?

I can't speak for that generation, but I can tell you I replaced a seat cover on a 2021 Cadillac last week under warranty for peeling.
GM still uses hog rings, and at least half of the locations were missing or missed the attachments. This was an escalade with less than 30k miles. So it wouldn't surprise me at all if they were just missed on assembly.

May have been a "quality control" issue. (we wouldn't want our quality to get out of control, would we? because then people would start expecting it every time) I don't really see any evidence that there have ever been hog rings there FWIW. May have been attached at one time but Stimpy came along and removed them because they didn't "look" "good" or something. Or, they just broke from old age and wear & tear. Hard to say after all these years. But that should definitely be attached and holding the seat cover material all stretched out and tight, like you have it there.

Re: Front seat assembly
Same owner before me since the early 90's, & the car is pretty much untouched with lower miles. Like you mentioned, there was no evidence of any piercings through the fabric until I secured it.
So for sure was never attached. The bottom leather square was fairly stretched out & is why I decided to take it apart to see if I could do anything with it.
I wasn't sure if all the leather seats in the 1988+ style seats did that, or if it might have been in part because this listing wire wasn't never secured.
After getting it back together I started to wonder if maybe securing it was going to cause problems & maybe they decided to leave them non-fastened for a reason.
before attaching this, you could just see the fabric exposed where the bottom & back meet. the part you are not supposed to see. Now its hidden again. I just need to steam the leather to see if I can get it to
relax a bit. Looks a bunch better already.
