Although the pics in the article show second gens, the story states firebirds from the 70s through the 90s, so Ill bet there are at least a few third gens in the mix.
" Pontiac lover who recently passed away. His widow is letting go of the cars, many of which were built in the '70s while some are as recent as '90s models."
Edited to add, I watched the linked video and saw three third gens, although I wouldn't be surprised if there were more.....

Re: Firebird hoard up for auction
I got an email from some entity concerning this. They showed a 2nd gen near a big barn, so I assumed they were all inside. but the photo you linked looks like there is a lot of Birds let out in the elements. non-the-less, 50 is a big number!

My buddy was there. They had I think 4 or 5 early thirdgens. He bought an 82 T/A roller and a fairly nice 83 Firebird SE.

Some cars brought stupid prices notably the 70-73 Trans Ams and 80/81 Indy and Nascar Trans Ams while others went for ok prices. For example, the rusty non running 70 TA went for 35k plus 9% while a restored 70 TA sold on eBay for 48k the next day. Others went for what you would expect +/-
