Anyone catch the Chevrolet Dealer auction yesterday? A couple of Third Gens, like new

A low mile IROC and also a Convertible from 1987, still in plastic (supposedly)

It was a midwest Chevy Dealer, selling off their collection. Seems to be happening a bit, last few years... Anyone see it/catch the results?

Here's a link w. some pics:

Did somebody bid on that Mote Carlo thinking it was the Chevelle? Seems real high for that car.

They have been trying to sell that 87 Convertible Camaro for a long time. $30k is a lot for that car IMHO

I live about 1.5 hours from there, and one of my best friends is a mechanic at that dealership.

The IROC sold very well at $28k.

The disappointment was the 57 Chevy Bel Air fuelie. It sold for about half of what they were expecting.

I guess the guy kept like 12 cars....he didn't have them all for sale. One is a 78 Pace Car Vette, still in the wrapper

The 87 convertible, even though still new, was ridiculous for what it sold. Same with just about the rest.
kudos for the auction house, which knew how to get top dollar (and beyond...) for those vehicles

Based on pictures, the IROC did seem strong, but I'm glad to see it. The RS price was crazy.

Is the Bel Air truly worth 100k, or is this a sign of things shifting for 50's cars?

1950s cars, I think it takes a special person to care about them like the last generation. So who knows if this is part of a reset? Regarding the 1987 convertible, is it really a rally sport?

The dealership called me a couple years ago to see if I was interested in buying the 87 convertible. I told him I wasn’t interested. I think they wanted $25,000 at that time.

Re: Anyone catch the Chevrolet Dealer auction yesterday? A couple of Third Gens, like

I might be a member of the "last generation" (73) mentioned above. I got rid of my IROC several months back because I wanted a 50s car again (bought a 56 Bel Air), hated driving it after enjoying the handling and comfort of third generation Camaros , it is on it's way to Sweden and I am looking for another IROC.

Nope. It's a Sport Coupe convertible. No RS third gens until 1989

There were RS Third gens in 1987 and 1988, California, mostly. Don't think they were convertibles though. Thant car just looks way too "base" though.

There actually wasn't. The 1987 year had a plain base Camaro coupe with no ground effects. 1988 plain camaro coupe had ground effects, different rear spoiler, and simply said CAMARO on the ground effects and rear bumper. 1989 was the return of the RS name. It's a very common mistake for someone to refer to a base Camaro as an RS....because 1989 up, the RS was the base Camaro. Any time that you see a pre 89 Camaro advertised as an RS, there will be no RS badging on it anywhere....unless someone added it

WHOA! I stand corrected! I have never heard of this. A test for California? I wonder how many were even made?? Anyone have a pic of one? Sounds like a typical later RS, other than only offered in a V6, and it had the Z28 style steering wheel. Wish they would have kept with the Z steering wheel

That's what happens when you go outside of ThirdGen.org for ThirdGen info!

All I can add is that the RPO for the RS in 1987 and 1988 was Z5C. I have never found the numbers produced in 1987, but for 1988 there were 7,038 units built.

The article above said they planned for 2000 to be built for 87

I'm still dumbfounded that I've never seen or heard of them before lol. Gotta love this place!
