Re: 86 IROC-Z commercial
See what you gotta understand is that the 80's were a very 'closeted' time. Folks with "alternative lifestyles" were forced into hiding, and were so uncommon that you could run into very obviously "gay" things in the least likely places. Or alternatively, those "extra flamboyant" folks were pigeonholed in certain industries where they could proudly let their freak flag fly. The result is you get movies like Top Gun, or this Iroc commercial that are obviously VERY GAY, but at the time were considered acceptable, or maybe even normal. Go ahead and watch that video again, and listen to the music, pay attention to the cues. Those single shots of women were obviously gay male models in the original cut. Imagine that one change and suddenly the subterfuge and confusion displayed in the video make much better sense. Now if you'll excuse me, I've gotta go list my Iroc on craigslist, drink heavily, build a structure out of wood to reconfirm my sexual identity after watching that video and realizing I own an Iroc.

Re: 86 IROC-Z commercial
I had to listen to this like thirty times because I couldn't understand some of the words. I'll be singing it in the shower later.
Lookin' so hot, so good
So much thunder, under the hood
IROC, IROC, ooooh
IROC n' Roll
IROC, IROC, roll
Tough on the streets, so mean
Camaro's my thunder- drive this machine
IROC, IROC, ooooh, IROC n' Roll
Drive today's Chevy, live today's Chevy
The IROC!

You know, as oblivious to maturity as I was back then (and it pains me to see my middle son kinda the same but at least I'm there to ridicule him constructively) where the Mustang GT, IROC/GTA, Buick GNs, C4's were my life and indeed no less than the future hope of all mankind, that I STILL felt that this IROC ad was total douchebaggery. I cringed back then. Which, is rare for me to say, I am proud of myself. I did do few things right. A very few.

I think the Berlinetta commercial is my favorite. Such class, such cringe.
Here's a long format Camaro commercial. Wonder if this played on loop at dealerships or something.

"I'm free!" and "Exotica wears a Chevy Bowtie".
"Features the most wheel gap in the industry!" (I made this one up)
OMG, I've have had two limited edition Stone Brewery Tiki Escape IPAs 7.7% each, that are freaking delicious, and these ads are fantastic! Lol!
And yeah, where's the Pontiac ads?!
Found one! The 80's Adult Film music sets it off
Get on your Pontiac and Ride!

Re: 86 IROC-Z commercial
Good grief; that's about as cringe-worthy as a commercial could be. But at least---back in the day---GM was actively advertising the Camaro, unlike today. I'd guess that most people in the US don't even know that the Camaro is still in production based on the fact that they're no longer being advertised nor promoted.

Re: 86 IROC-Z commercial
From a commercial production standpoint, of course. And we all know the implementation of the CHMSL on the 1986 models were a complete tack on afterthought. Virtually all the 1986 cars were in a similar boat. 1986 Corvette was one of the few where GM took time to get it right.
