Rarest Car You Ever Parted/Scrapped

Since I'm locked inside, what's the Rarest car You ever Parted/Scrapped? I have not seen a thread like this yet. For me, I put an 83 Daytona, and a 86 digital dash car in the grave. Not by choice they were just too far gone. The Daytona was so bad I fell through the floor, the frame was gone. The 86 just needed everything, restored the dash and I am currently doing the swap into my main 86 car.

92 TA one of 816 TA's for the year. Possibly a magazine long term car.

Re: Rarest Car You Ever Parted/Scrapped

Would have to say a 91 L98 Formula. My cousin and I went half on it at $125 a piece for a total of $250 with no title. Was a solid Maui blue or whatever color was in 91 Missouri car too. Complete but non running. Needed a little bit of everything but for my $125 I got a mint dash pad the 3.23 disc rear and a stockpile of odds and end parts. Plus made my 91 a little more obsolete in the process

And idk if it classifies as rare but certainly something you don’t see much of. My first car was an ‘80 Buick Turbo Regal Sport Coupe. Man I loved and miss that car.

Re: Rarest Car You Ever Parted/Scrapped

Sad to see that green Trans Am go to its grave. What a beauty.

I guess it depends on how you define "rare." It's only enthusiasts that start considering unique and rare option packages. To the non-enthusiast, they're all f-bodies. In 2020, 28 years after the last one was built, I think we now can all claim to have rare cars in the eyes of most people. I don't think of my '88 GTA as rare, but there were roughly 5,000 built that had both the digital dash and SWC, which was the only year that these two options were available at the same time. 5,000 vehicles in any model year isn't rare, but it's fairly uncommon. And 32 years later, it's rare.

Rarest car I've owned was probably a 1990 Buick Reatta. I bought it in 1998. "Rare" isn't the right word, but there were only about 21,000 total Reattas built from 1988-1991, so it never was a common car. It was my daily driver for five years and was certainly uncommon by 2003. I always liked driving it. Besides being a very nice car, it was really rare to see another one.

Re: Rarest Car You Ever Parted/Scrapped

No pics unfortunately but the rarest car I've parted (or helped to part) would be a gun metal grey 91' GTA. It was a 5 speed car with ttops, making it at least one of 164 5 speed GTA's for 91, and one of only 98 GMG GTA's. Car was horrifically rotten, light years beyond savable.

Re: Rarest Car You Ever Parted/Scrapped

Last year I parted a Quasar blue 92 TA. Hard top, LB9/T5. dual cats, 3.42 posi, the works. When I got it the car was a failed project, missing engine and had an older NWC trans, rusted beyond belief. I was really angry when I found out the trans wasn't original LOL.

84 Anniversary TA ... Someone already started before I got it ... so the rest went. Sad to to sell Recaros ... Still got white wheels though ... tough sell.

Re: Rarest Car You Ever Parted/Scrapped

While I did not part it out (my buddy did), I still have the rear end that was pulled from a 89 Formula 350 Convertible. Car was a total basket case, but the 9 bolt PBR rear will be going into my 87 IROC over the summer.

Re: Rarest Car You Ever Parted/Scrapped

"RAREST" Thirdgen,......

Bought an 86 Berlinetta in 99' for the Tranny and parted the rest. 1 of 4,479 produced that year. Probably the only picture I ever took of that car; I had to use a scanner on a 35mm picture back then to get the digital image ! I've certainly parted many (many) other high-end / highly-optioned Trans Ams and IROCs, but none were as "rare" as that 86 Berlinetta.

Re: Rarest Car You Ever Parted/Scrapped

Are we only talking 3rd gens?

1970 Camaro SS. This was a car which changed hands several times in our group of friends. Always for the same price, $500.

I was in the passenger seat when my friend got into an accident with it. Insurance declared it a total, paid my friend more than he had into it and told him he could keep the car. In today's terms, the car was very fixable and rust free, but in circa 1980 it was just an old, banged up, 70,000 mile Camaro. I was interested in it's 4 bolt main 350 and 12 bolt rear end and gave my friend $75 for the whole car.

I pulled the drivetrain and junked the car. I had dreams of building a hot rod with that motor and 12 bolt. I never got past putting the engine on a stand and disassembling it. 20 years later, after I had gotten married and had my own house, my dad calls me and says, figure out what you're going to do with your junk in the garage, because if you don't do something with it, I'm throwing it out. I sold the engine, trans and 12 bolt to a friend, who ended up building them for his hot rod '70 Camaro.

It certainly would have been a $10,000 car today, even with the dents.

Recently, I found it's driver's mirror in my garage. All that is left of it.

Re: Rarest Car You Ever Parted/Scrapped

I junked an 82 Recaro about 18 years ago. 100% rust free AZ car, complete, 65,000 original miles. Took the N89s and interior out of it to put in my 83 T/A I had at the time, sold the running LU5 and Turbo 200 for $900, and cut the car into pieces with a torch. I got the car for free from a guy I knew at the time.

85 iroc. Silver/l69/5 speed/conteur interior. Car was way too rusted to even think of trying to save it

F bodies overall would probably be this 95 TA. According to the breakdown I found, single digit production in this color as a stick. Nothing was really wrong with it just don’t like 4th gens
