Super-low mileage IROC on Ebay -- only 104 miles!

For those who thought the 1,800 mile IROC for sale a couple of weeks ago had too many miles, here is a 1987 IROC with only 104 miles!

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1987-Chevro...IAAOSwwJ1eRd3h

Condition looks exceptionally clean, though there are no underbody pictures.

It seems to be pretty light on options. Since it has manual windows and door locks, it must have IROC Option Package 1. It does not have
the custom interior. It does have T-tops and the UX1 (EQ) radio, though. The lack of options doesn't seem to be holding it back
though -- it's currently up to $42K, with five days left on the auction.

I don't believe the emissions test results.
But the car is a time capsule for sure.

Re: Super-low mileage IROC on Ebay -- only 104 miles!

Another one? This is my shocked face.

Surely this is the last very low mileage Iroc to ever come out of the woodwork.

Edit: It looks like a really nice car. Kinda odd to see a 1SA optioned car with a 350 and CC1. It's got the go fast options that it probably wouldn't have if it were a year newer, but then it's got T-tops which kind of make you scratch your head. You'd think going cheap on the seats, they'd go cheap on the roof for a purely performance car, but apparently someone had to have the T-tops... But why cheap out on the seats? Always felt those seats were OK in a base model, but on a Z28 or better it just looks like someone went full poverty mode when they have the high backs. Oh well, it'll be interesting to see if the lack of creature comfort options hurts the value.

Re: Super-low mileage IROC on Ebay -- only 104 miles!

Also can't help but notice this is about as stripped as a 87 Iroc with a 350 and T-tops could be. A 1SA car with the engine, t-tops, radio, and nothing else. A Norwood car. Meanwhile, Scott's Iroc is a well documented 87 Iroc, with a 350, and T-tops, 1SC with everything, leather, carpeted interior panels, power rear view, power mirrors, power driver's seat, etc. Again a Norwood car. My 87 Iroc is right in the middle somewhere, a 350 T-top car, 1SB package. Power locks, and windows, no power rear view or driver's seat, no carpeted interior panels except the console and kick panels. Also a Norwood car. Funny to see how the same basic car could be configured considerably different while having the same key options and gray interior. If only my Iroc weren't trashed... At least it's blue.

I see about $20k in that listing. What's the allure, other than low mileage?

Would rather put that kind of coin into other vehicles, all things considered.

Nice car, but it's such a shame how so many of these were automatic... or that the ZF-6 was never offered with the 350.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but the Bid History seems to reveal this as well...

I don't consider Ebay, Barret Jackson or Mecum auctions, true values for cars. With that said, I wish the seller the best on it. It is nice.

What would one of us third gen enthusiasts actually do with a car like that? Too low mileage car to drive or modify. And, imho, not a car that's gonna bring a big return on investment. Now if i was really, really, rich, then yea, I'd buy it to put in my personal warehouse to display lol

If I were super rich, I'd fly out to get the car, pay for it, take the keys and jump in it and do a big smokey burnout as I was leaving in it

Yes, there was no last minute bidding for a surge.

It's hard to say what the market value for such ultra-low mileage (much less than 1000 miles) cars is, as there are only a couple of examples out there.
But if they are worth $10-20K more than cars with a few thousand miles, it really does discourage driving them.
I'm glad I bought my car which had 3,000 miles on it five year ago-- at least I feel I can use it (it currently has 6,000 miles).

Did it sell to a bidder for below the reserve, or did they come up to his reserve? Can you share what the car sold for?

But it did have C60 AC, 1AY factory order...Does the X in the VIN mean anything?
Any idea of what it finally sold for?

The X is the 9th character of a VIN and is used as a check digit. It does not signify anything about the car itself. It is used to help validate the VIN through an algorithm.

Yep. The algorithm assigns a number value to the letters, the numbers already have their values. All the values are calculated together, and the result gives you the check digit. If someone has falsified the VIN number, the characters won't add up to the correct check digit value.

@BizJetTech knows what it sold for. IIRC he knows the seller.

Mecum and B-J are not barometers, but eBay, I have sold several vehicles on that site, and often after the listing ran its course, receiving offers form more than the last "bid", selling the vehicle.

If the rivets are fine and there's no evidence of tampering, don't worry about it. It's just there so a thief doesn't change a digit or two of the VIN. If the state doesn't tell you the VIN is invalid when it's titled, it's fine.

No, the X means the algorithm didn't work out to be a 0-9. Check digits are always 0 to 9 or X.
