Re: Pretty car, but oh that undercoating!

At least they were thorough. Always hated these rust proofing jobs with all the holes and rubber plugs drilled in the door jambs.

Not seeing anything about this car that really stands out. Bad year, bad colors, no stand-out options... Just meh I'd scroll right past without clicking the link.

I love the color combo! Not something I would have ordered in the day, but I appreciate now.

Re: Pretty car, but oh that undercoating!

The only thing about this car that stands out is that it has the standard highback seats in it, reminds me of Beverly Hills cop 2 where the bad guys in a 86 black iroc had the black vinyl high back seats which is a lot more rare to find now vs the typical 85-86 z28/iroc seats you normally see. Ive said it before and im with drew not a fan of the color interior. The highback seats were the only that caught my eye apart from other irocs

I have that same black stuff on my 85 T/A,under the hood,in the door bottoms and rear wells,it's stayed pretty rust free all these years.

"Quite possibly the lowest-mileage 1986 Camaro in existence"

Pop the hood and I beg to differ. Did the guy drive through a flood?

STILL removing it when I want to just piddle with it. I put Kerosene in a spray bottle and misted small manageable sections and let it soak a few to soften the tar up. Then remove it with old rags.
Put some plastic down on the floor so you don't have another mess to clean up........And buy ya a box of Nitrile gloves!

Re: Pretty car, but oh that undercoating!

Depends on the chemical composition, and condition of the undercoating, but a lot of it can be removed easily enough with a mild solvent (odorless mineral spirits, engine degreaser, etc). If it's the thicker goop, or rubberized crap, it can be much harder to remove. Gotta be careful with it, because a lot of places on a thirdgen the paint under the coating often isnt clearcoated, to the extent that it's practically overspray, and aggressive solvent use can remove the thin paint.

Nice color combo.. Plus that car comes with a lot of documentation including the receipt for that rust proofing.

That auto transmission is a bigger sin than the undercoating.
