They do have a following like the GNX but the group is proportional to number of Firehawks built, small. Not many people know of the car or its real performance. Some of the cars have aluminum rodeck blocks with 366 cubes and I know one has a aluminum 383.

Three reasons come to mind:
1. Emissions certification for an L98 w/ a ZF6 Speed (each configuration must go through the EPA process of certification for sale)
2. ZF6 was introduced way too late in the production run for proper integration and profits from engineering, etc. (see #1)
3. If they used the console from SLP, it looked unfinished and cheap compared to the rest of the car, even on the base Firebird interior. It wasn't until the proposed Anniversary Edition (where two prototypes were made), the console looked finished. That was in 1992. Too late.

I always figured they were similar to the 4th gen Firehawk.. I guess the Third gen firehawk is the one to get!
I’m surprised dealers would sell that back then.. Pontiac warrantied it?
Seems too cool to be true.. Chevy should have done something like this with the IROC for the last year but they were probably too worried about their precious Corvette being slower..

The price killed it - Firehawk was a $19,378.00 option on a $20,000.00 car! If you wanted to add the Competition package that was another $8,995.00, passenger seat another $895.00 race belts for that seat another $175.00.
If you ordered a comp package Firehawk configured like above you were looking at an additional $29,404.00 on top of a $20,000.00 car and that was before the dealer market adjustment price!
I still want one....my day will come....right place right time....I'm patient.

But in 1992, the Corvette received the LT1 @ 300 hp, and also had the optional LT5 with 375 hp, so no chance in the heavier Camaro being faster or quicker tan the Y-Body. Still, I do wish the 1992 Heritage prototypes made production. Would have been neat, to say the least.
