1985 L69 advise

I recently purchased an 1985 L69 with 12k original miles. Car had been sitting for 15 years and was found without the original motor. The motor was replaced with another 305 through a GM dealer. Will I hurt the value of the car if i remove parts for example ,EGR intake quadrajet exhaust manifolds. Or should I keep it looking stock? Thanks.

Re: 1985 L69 advise

It'll be hard to drive without those parts; so yeah, probably hurt the "value".

It has little or no "value" as a L69 car since it doesn't have the L69. I'd bet those other parts you're talking about removing aren't L69 stuff either. IMO the issue at hand isn't "value", at last as far as anything resembling "originality"; at this point it's just another old car that's unfortunately been hacked on beyond repair.

If it still has the 3.73 rear gears and the good version (ratios) of the 1st design T-5, those still have some small "value", but not really a whole lot.

Your car, do what makes you happy. But stock or at least as close to stock as possible will deliver best value.

Re: 1985 L69 advise

Would it matter if the replacement motor was a 85 L69 but not matching numbers? I don't want to molest another rare L69.

Re: 1985 L69 advise

Your 'numbers matching" motor is already gone, & so is that part of it's originality; never to return.

Go ahead and do what-ever you want to do to it. Install another L69 and dress it with L69 parts,........ or build something 1-of-a-kind; It's up to you and how you want to present the car.

Re: 1985 L69 advise

The replacement motor was almost certainly not a L69 anyway. You would have to show me the heads and manifolds to believe it.

Re: 1985 L69 advise

Yeah not sure. The manifolds are correct however not sure on the head. Casting ends in 416. The reason I ask is because I have access to an original 1985 L69.

Re: 1985 L69 advise

Hmm, I think 416 is the correct head for L69
Even original l69 with matching numbers is only really worth anything if it's low miles.
If you are looking to upgrade the engine, by all means sell the manifolds , etc to someone who thinks they are worth something. Won't effect the value of your ride.

Re: 1985 L69 advise

It could be a correct L69 service replacement block done at the dealership. My 87 LB9 was replaced at the dealer - difference is I have the paperwork to go with it.

If you can pick up the other L69 cheap enough I would do it.

Re: 1985 L69 advise

Please Keep in mind this car sat for 15 years so it's dusty. But well preserved otherwise

No air - cool!

Do you have the block-outs in the dash?
