Beautiful Formula!! I can say I haven't seem too many in that color, and with more of these cars ending up parted out or in scrap yards it's a rarer color going forward.

I didn't go over it with a fine tooth comb but I'd sure be happy with it in my stable!

Re: Formula 350 - Production numbers??
Shiftman's book will be a must have for any 3rd gen geek... Excellent information.
As for the Flame Red Metallic Formulas... About 5440, Obviously this is for All Formulas, not just the 350 cars.

Re: Formula 350 - Production numbers??
across all years?
Here is what he Shiftman stated.....
"In 1989, there were only 1161 units of Flame Red Metallic Formulas. For 1989, the color was not available on TAs. On the GTA that year, there were 1955 units.
Those 1161 Formula units make it the rarest color Formula for 1989 (other than the one Yellow Formula). The next lowest Formula color total was Silver Blue with 2554 units".
Thanks!!

Re: Formula 350 - Production numbers??
Sorry, I read the Bright Red, not the Flame red... in 1990 the color changed to "Brilliant Red" He has it correct 1161 was total production on the Formulas 87-92

I know of several. Even have 2 92 formula 350s with ttops myself. That combo required black crosslace wheels.

1991 There were 44* Formula 350's with T-tops,
1992 there were 209* Formula 350's with T-tops...
*Note: There may be a few more out there as this is from incomplete data from compnine.com. So these are confirmed numbers...

Re: Formula 350 - Production numbers??
Hello MyBird1990, Michael Wargo, Jack Hull, and my friends TTOP350 and Okfoz.
I have been absent for several months because I moved from Los Angeles to Raleigh, North Carolina. Other family-related matters intervened, I flew back to Detroit for a while, and I am still not out of the woods. But, I wanted to say hello and chime in.
Yes, there truly were CC1 tops with L98s in 1989, as the link in the post above indicates with the attached SPID photo.
It is interesting to note that there had to be at least 5,441 units of CC1 for 1989 L98 GTAs. Check page 83 of my book and grab your calculator.
In 1990, there were definitely no CC1 + L98 Firebird models.
In 1991, there were, as mentioned above by Okfoz, at least 44 units of CC1 + L98. They were all Formula models. They were all MD8 and PW7 in 19P. The known totals by exterior color rarity are: one unit 87U, two units 23U, and three units 75U. This is on page 131 of my book. As discussed on page 106-107, we know that there are 81 units of 1991 Formulas for which the build record is unknown. Consequently, there may be a couple more CC1 + L98 Formulas for 1991.
In 1992, there were at least 209 units of CC1 + L98. They were all Formula models. They were all MD8 and PW7 in 41P. The known totals by exterior color rarity are: six units 45U, seven units 18U, and nine units 52U. This is on page 159 of my book. As discussed on page 134-135, we know that there are 156 units of 1992 Formulas for which the build record is unknown. Consequently, there may be a couple more CC1 + L98 Formulas for 1992.
Hope this helps.
Best,
Robert

Re: Formula 350 - Production numbers??
Robert, your book is by far the one book I use most often for research like this. Thank you for your hard work...
I just hope that some day they find the 1987 data like 86 & 88-90...

Re: Formula 350 - Production numbers??
Yes, 2,613 units of L98/B2L Formulas in 1988 is correct, page 69 of my book. All with RPO MD8 automatic transmission and RPO GW6 rear axle with 3.27 ratio, page 71. Those L98 Formulas were the only 1988 Formulas that had RPO KC4 Engine Oil Cooling System. Page 67 has a color breakout for all 1988 Formulas (not by engine).

Re: Formula 350 - Production numbers??
Sometimes I play with Chevys.
Purely PMD was a company in Albuquerque New Mexico owned by John Hutchinson & Rick Write that dealt in rare cars & parts back in the 80's. They built a RA V 69 Judge that won at the nationals and was in a ton of magazines that year and were planning on building a 71 GT-37 that Rick owned next. Unfortunately John's son died suddenly and his will to go on went with him. The business struggled, John passed away and Rick has since too.
I now own that GT-37 and race it in F.A.S.T. and Pure Stock classes and I also own the PurelyPMD.com URL. I've also owned/own some of the rarest cars Pontiac ever built from RA I, II, III & IV GTO's to multiple Judges & Judge convertibles, TA's & Formulas from almost every year from 69 to 97 and a pair of 455HO/4spd Convertibles (71 & 72).
On other boards my user ID is The Boss (a Springsteen reference) but that was taken here so I went with option 2.
