Classic 80s muscle street race
Motorweek did a special test segment on the camaro, firebird T/A and mustang gt around 1985 or 1986.
I noticed something I never thought was an engine option on the firebird T/A due to the hidden headlights. Check out this video and at 1:11 and see if you know what it is?

Never saw the dual snorkel on the Trans-Ams only Camaros.

Ive seen it on the camaros but never on the trans am. That one was a very low option car geared toward performance. 5 speed, dual snorkel, AC delete. L69 HO

I don't know how many L69 Trans Ams were made in 85 but I would imagine all of them were dual snorkel intakes.

Boy, that video is exactly how I remember those cars & that era too. Always felt my HO camaro pulled better on the top end over the tuned port, & the mustangs were beating most of the F bodies until the 5.7's came out & then we had good drag races.
Great memories for me. Thanks for sharing the link.

I drove an 83 or 84 HO 5spd 3.73 geared Camaro once and honestly as far as seat of pants feel.. it felt stronger than any stock 3rd gen id ever drove. Seen them run 14.7s at the track also neck to neck with the L98 autos. Would love to own one.

Anyone else notice what looks like a STB in front of the air cleaner, under the intake hoses?

The Dual Snorkel Wasn't Used On The L69 FIrebird's Till 1985 Because Of A Hood Redesign.

Though they still look good, that generation of Mustang hasn't aged as well as the Camaro/Firebird.

Just found the similar mustang test vehicle for sale

To me, the third gen still looks fresh enough to be on the showroom floor. And is a much more interesting design that's what IS on the showroom floor today. I think it has aged much more gracefully than most other cars from '82.

I agree with ya on that ray jr and the only HO Trans Ams I remember seeing myself were the Daytona Pace Cars with the Cold Air Intake Air Cleaner systems.

Re: Classic 80s muscle street race
They are. My 86 Mustang is faster than my thirdgens, but at 85mph on the interstate it feels like a rocket powered conestoga wagon. A thirdgen traveling 50mph faster is much less scary. Could blame it on the suspension, or wind noise, or almost anything, but it really comes down to the Mustang being a really CHEAP outdated design, and the thirdgen being state of the art in comparison.
