Definition of the term "Restored" abused

It's so abused daily. If it's not as it was as it left the factory on the day it was built,... IT's NOT FLIPPIN RESTORED PEOPLE.
A coat of paint and Autozone seat covers is NOT restored.

bring back (a previous right, practice, custom, or situation); reinstate.
"the government restored confidence in the housing market"

antonyms:abolish

  • return (someone or something) to a former condition, place, or position.

Re: Definition of the term "Restored" abused

As soon as I read LS2 engine swap, I stopped. I am in complete agreement that if the car isn't 99% the way it left the factory, then it is not restored or original. Even if you leave the engine stock and install a serpentine system, it is no longer original. I am contemplating a cluster swap on my 1985 T/A to an '86 electric cluster. These are factory parts, but I will not make the claim that it is original!

Re: Definition of the term "Restored" abused

This forum used to be the History/Restoration forum, but with so many people saying they were "restoring" their car, but with new wheels, engine, seat covers, etc, the management decided to change the name to History/Originality.

I agree 100% that a restoration is to return back to what came from the factory. Everything else is a modification. In my opinion, a restomod is car that looks mostly original, but may have new wheels and upgraded engine, etc.

Another abused word. "mint". Depends on peoples standards. Although my cars are very nice, I would never describe them as mint.

Re: Definition of the term "Restored" abused

I'm more of a faded original paint guy myself. Squirting black paint on a floorpan/engine compartment, orange engine, a carb swap (from efi)air shocks and tires that stick waaay out in the rear is NOT a restoration.
I agree about over used terms, "built" is another one of those that drive me nuts.
