Mecum Kissimmee 16 3rd Gens On Docket

Mecum Kissimmee starts Friday and 3rd Gens are represented well. A total of 16 that consists of 10 Camaro's, 4 Trans Ams, and 2 Firebirds.

Includes a 82 Pace Car, a rare 90 Formula, Irocs, Convertibles and z28's. Here are some low mileage examples.

More could be added. There are a lot of open slots left for several days.

TTA with 3675 Miles (have seen this car for sale on CL 40K+)

A 1991 GTA with only 8400 miles

1986 Camaro IROC Z 5L Auto with 8200 miles

I might have to tune in for this. I had a 91 TA just like the Carmine one. Quite a few more miles though.

Re: Mecum Kissimmee 16 3rd Gens On Docket

I'm thinking about driving down tomorrow to check this out. Their website says $30 admission. Seems a little high to just walk around and look at the cars. I'll call a friend and see if he can get me in to bring the cars up on display. They get special passes and don't pay.

$21k is good money for a 1986 with 15k miles. Many have said that no third gen is worth over $20k unless they are without miles. Well, here is exactly what I've been saying for the past year. $21k for a run-of-the-mill IROC-Z, nothing special, and it sells for good money. Now, add in multi platinum award/first place awards, leather, Bose and a 350, and the value increases more.

Re: Mecum Kissimmee 16 3rd Gens On Docket

Here is a good history / originality question... I thought that the font of the mileage on all 86's was different than that of the 87s and up... If you look at the font on the odometer of the red car and also of the white one with 8k miles, they are different. I was always under the impression that the white one was correct for 86, not the red car. Anyone know?

Nice to see real sales of these cars pulling big bucks, especially a 305 powered 86

Here is the font on the red 86:

Here is the font on the white 86:

Re: Mecum Kissimmee 16 3rd Gens On Docket

87 IROC Z (no pic or info) sold for $12K late in the day. Not a bad price for when most of the money is out of the room.

The 86 had a great position on the docket. The first 5 cars out of the gate were elite supercars that were valued or sold for over 100K. The IROC was sold a half hour latter.

A Teal 91 Camaro RS Convertible did not sell with a high bid of $6500. Not surprised here. This car looked nice on the outside but the interior was bad. There were stains all over the carpet and the drivers seat. It looked like a coffee stain.

Re: Mecum Kissimmee 16 3rd Gens On Docket

Thought I might ad some perspective to todays results.

The 86 IROC got a higher price than every single 2nd Gen from 76 on and every single 4nd gen offered so far in the 2 days of auction.

The 86 IROC got more money than every Corvette sold of the same time period up to 2006. The 87 got more money than all but 2 of 20 Corvettes up for sale. again, same time period.

It got more money than a 71 Dodge Challenger, 69 Barracuda, a 68 Firebird Convertible, and a 67 Camaro. Not bad company.

I am really happy to see these results. I have always thought our cars were worth something. Thanks for posting the results BJ, I really wanted to see where the Teal 91 vert ended up, as I have the Z28 version. Do you know what the reserve was on this?

I don't know what the reserve was, but as I said above, this was Not a pristine car. The stain on the drivers seat is big and very visible and there were spots on the door cards and the floor.

I too am happy to see the results. As I said in another thread, the late model 2nd gens really don't sell for anything more than our cars in similar condition. Bandit Trans Ams in Black and Gold are the exception. Most 2nd gen's sold for around the same price the $12K 87 sold for. The high being a 79 Trans Am that sold for $18K.

Re: Mecum Kissimmee 16 3rd Gens On Docket

I watched some of the live feed today, saw 2 third gens go thru. 90 Iroc vert black with a 305. Had a slow start, reserve was taken off at 4k. Sold for $5500.

Also a 1982 Camaro Pace car with only 1000 miles. It was not on the consignment list on line. If it was it went out of the listing order. Sold for 15,500 or 16000.

Re: Mecum Kissimmee 16 3rd Gens On Docket

3rd Gen's had a decent day today. 2 out of 3 sold. But it is frustrating because the two best cars "by bid or sold price" have no pictures or information other that price and basic car info.

82 Camaro Pace Car Edition sold for $15,500

90 Firebird Formula Did Not Sell had a high bid of $11,000

90 Camaro IROC Convertible sold for $5500

Convertibles are not getting much love so far.

Again no late model 2nd Gen's, 4th Gen's or Corvettes up to 2006 has sold for more than the 86 IROC. The 82 Pace Car was only beaten by a 99 Firehawk Convertible at 18K and a 81 Corvette.

Oh, by the way, did I mention all three of the Non convertibles have sold for more than almost all the 40 or so BMW's, Benz's and Audi's sold so far!

Who says are cars are not appreciated!

Yep! I'd bet that the white one was bought by the dealership that sells deloreans nearby in FL (Gulf Coast Motorsports) and we'll see it for $20k+ in the coming weeks! The maroon GTA did not hit reserve.

Re: Mecum Kissimmee 16 3rd Gens On Docket

What always bothered me with watching these auctions is we (spectators) rarely get to know the details of the cars. How many owners, how many miles, how much documentation, repaints, original equipment, etc. These are the things that make a $5500 car a $15,500 car IMO. But, we just scratch out heads sometimes wondering what made the price go so north or south.

I know many of those details are on the website, but I'm sure not going to look up every car, or care enough to take notes & check later. The guys do touch on some of that info, some of the time if they have it in front of them. I just wish more info was offered on the telecast. It would make the broadcast so much better to watch IMO.

Very likely, I was just pointing out that although it wasn't sold for what we think it's worth someone got a great deal! I've told my wife that when I'm finished with my GTA, I'm going to buy a station wagon from an auction similar to Mecham and transform it to her DD. I'm always seeing very nice cars selling for great prices compared to prices here in Houston!

Re: Mecum Kissimmee 16 3rd Gens On Docket

Placement is everything at these auctions. Which day, what time of day and whats for sale around you can make all the difference. The 3rd Gens this weekend were up against some really nice cars and sold when the largest amount of the general public was there. The cars sold during the week are sold to primarily dealers and a much smaller general public crowd.

Here's a good example.

The TTA with 3675 miles had a high bid of $24,000!

It had a late auction placement on a Wednesday half way through the multi day auction. This car should have been on one of the premier Saturdays!

Re: Mecum Kissimmee 16 3rd Gens On Docket

In the end, not a single Firebird/Trans Am sold during this auction. The 89 TTA, 91 GTA and 91 Formula getting the highest bids of 24K, 14K and 11K.

The Camaros did better. 7 out of 11 sold. The high bids being 21K for the 86 IROCZ, 16K for 89 IROC Z and a 82 pace car for 15.5K. Started off good but results declined as the auction days continued.

I'm assuming your post is regarding the '82 Pace Car that's already for sale on eBay. I saw that earlier and figured it would be posted here.
