Another 3rd Gen bites the dust

Found this just listed on KC CL. Don't know anything about the accident. Can't believe anyone walked away!

It does look like something fell on it instead of it being a half roll over.

Re: Another 3rd Gen bites the dust

Of coarse I live in Tornado alley. If this was in a building hit by one, the roof or walls could have landed on it. A friend lost 12 1968 firebirds in a warehouse hit this summer. The steel supports landed on them. A total loss.

How gutting hearing this makes me want to cry they are getting so rare now! we cant afford to lose any more! I think we should start up a muscle car manufacture plant under GM make a come back for the real cars!

Re: Another 3rd Gen bites the dust

Chazman posted this one like 6 months ago, guess there are still no takers. Low mileage IIRC.

Re: Another 3rd Gen bites the dust

The Idea behind "Low Miles" is that the car would need nothing or close to nothing to be like what it was when it left the assembly plant. That a low miles car would indeed be more reliable, and hence more desirable...

If miles was the only factor then for sure this car (if it had low miles) or the 96 mile Formula that is totally wasted in a similar thread, would be priceless. The truth is, to repair just the roof of the car would require an entirely new roof. There is nothing on the car, sans the wheels and maybe the drive-train (if you can get them our out) I have seen damage like that on one of the fenders total a car out by the insurance company.

Instead of looking at what would need replaced, the truth is, the list is shorter for the things that don't.

Wheels,
Back bumper
Front bumper
Ground effects (mostly)
Tail lights look to be intact
Transmission
(was the axle bent?)
drive-shaft probably survived
Not even sure about the engine, If it had TPI I bet it was crushed too... So you now have the potential of metal inside the engine...
I suppose you could save the springs, and the sway bars... but really what else could you save from the car... not the T-tops, that is for sure.

Re: Another 3rd Gen bites the dust

Never had the notion of it being anything other than a parts car, and very few of them at that. Think it was around 10k on the odometer.

Re: Another 3rd Gen bites the dust

Yeah, looking at it and the fact that the passenger door appears (for the most part) untouched, but in front and behind the door is crunched I think something fell on this car. Talk about a sad one

Re: Another 3rd Gen bites the dust

This has been around for awhile. Apparently the owner wrecked it back in 1992 or so and bought it back from insurance and kept it stored until now and is trying to sell it.

Re: Another 3rd Gen bites the dust

Driver quality 3rd gens are becoming rare in the midwest. Driver Firebird's are as rare as hens teeth and Camaro's are quickly disappearing as well. It's sad that one that looked as good as this one did, will probably be used as a parts car. This summer, I have seen only 2 3rd gen camaro's and no firebird's on the road. 80% of the ad's for cars are ones with extensive damage, projects gone wrong, or rusted through. The decent ones are true low mileage (under 30,000) mile investment type cars. There is very little left in between
