Rare '87 GTA

Hey Everyone,

I went to see a rare GTA today for sale. It wasnt quite as nice as I am looking for (those of you who know me know that i'm picky), but it was so unusual that I wanted to post, someone may want it due to it's rarity and fair price.

Early 87 GTA with the "ala carte" options. I believe 87 was the only year you could get a basic GTA with few options and very few were actually bought like this.

-305 TPI
-5-speed
-hardtop
-Crank windows!
-No cruise
-No tilt!
-But it did have power mirrors??
-29k miles

Car is a 3/4 repaint and has some dings and dents and paint flaws. Has a flowmaster. Owner will take $7500 for it. Located in Dayville CT. Here are some pics, just thought it was cool to see such a low option GTA!

His name is Bob at 860-774-4065

Thanks for sharing. A stripped down gta is sort of one of the "mystical" cars and its great to see pictures of a real one.

It looks like based from the HVAC unit that it had A/C, right? You could even get an 1987 GTA without A/C. We have atleast one regular member here who has one without factory A/C.

No prob! I look for this stuff all the time and thought it was cool to see one so different. JT, it did have AC and the basic cassette player. Would love to see pics of the one without AC, how cool!

That's neat, thanks for sharing! I've never seen one without tilt steering before, too bad it doesn't have the paddle mirrors.

Re: Rare '87 GTA

I had an 87 IROC equipped like this one. 350 tpi, auto, 4wheel db, ac, crank windows, no tilt, no cruise, base cassette stereo, no power mirrors, no t-tops, iroc blue long lean over to crank windows and the steering column was at an uncomfortable position.

Re: Rare '87 GTA

I know it is not the same, but I looked at a Rare A/C delete Orange Metallic 1988 Formula 350 the only option it had was an FM radio and the power antenna Think it had tilt, but that was because it is standard.

Nice!! That sounds awesome! That's something I would have bought new back in the day given the opportunity. Was it for sale?

Yes it was... If I remember correctly it was hit in the front end, poorly fixed, the paint matched, but the fenders did not quite line up right with one of the doors. It only had 80K on it, they were asking $3000... Of course this was back around 2000/2001 so I am sure the car has been beat to death and long gone by some teenager. It was made to go, and go fast.

If I remember the story right, a guy I work with has a friend, his name (sounds like) Jaff (not Jeff) that actually purchased that car off of a Good will or some place people donate cars really cheep. He drove it and according to the guy I work with the car was blistering fast (it had no options.) After Jaff got done beating the snot out of it, he sold it. And an owner after him was selling it. I got wind from another coworker that there was an orange Formula for sale in Owosso, MI, I checked it out. When I went back to buy it 2 days later it was gone.
