Dealer license frames ( Lyman Slack )

For whatever reason after buying my 89 I researched the dealer it came from in Portland Oregon. It sounded like a cool dealership from what I've heard. They sold alot of muscle cars and had a great parts department for performance parts. They closed in the early 90's.

Anyway, I located a frame to put on the Iroc. It was in pretty nice shape, I just had to touch up the paint a bit.

A 66 Vette sold at auction last year for record big bucks and it came from Lyman Slack. You can see the Corvette corner in the dealer pic ....

IMO that is a great asset to have with your car for documentation reasons.
Very cool.

I have the dealer plate holder for my 82 Firebird base car which was Holland Pontiac out of Mssillon, Oh. Also it took me a while, but got a Mecham Glendale (Arizona) plate holder for the MSE. A picture before it was mounted on the car.

My 92 GTA still wears it's original dealer license plate frame. Wood Pontiac, Santa Rosa CA.

I don't think it adds value but maybe coolness for some. The window sticker shows what dealer cars were delivered to anyway.

Dealer identification of any kind, be it a plate frame or a bumper sticker, needs to be removed and discarded immediately. Leaving them on makes any car look like trash.

Besides, what did the dealer do to earn a free adverstising spot? Take your money?

I hear that & respect your opinion, it's nostalgic for me, as a kid, I remember landmarks: it was Felix Chevrolet w/Giant Felix the cat, Griffith Park, Venice Beach, everything pre-80 in sleepy Alhambra/San Gabriel on Valley Blvd when we still had cruises, The Re alto Theater etc. I don't think it looks trashy, it's nice to meet people who ask about it and/or also are from so cal, it's cool,

Purely nostagia.... the dealer doesn't even exsist anymore.... but when it did it did employ alot of people..... Some dealerships have a good reputation... like this one did.
The trash comment was uncalled for.

I respectfully disagree. It's personal preference. No different than owners who customize their cars with things. Its called an accessory.

In my case, the Mecham brothers were an important part of Firebird/TA history and customized the cars right out of the dealership. So for me, yeah they get the free advertising for a dealership that is no more.

Re: Dealer license frames ( Lyman Slack )

I think the old plate frames and OEM chevy / pontiac dealership logos are cool

I'm lucky to have the original Jack Maxton plate that came on my 1LE when it was new on the lot as well as a Scuncio Chevrolet tag on my IROC from new. Scuncio was well known for performance cars back in the day before closing the doors in the late 80s.

That pic of the dealership is cool. While I too trash the dealer junk immediately, 20+ years in, it IS kind of neat to see.
