Scott Moyer Got Ink in Hemmings Muscle Machines

Scott's Righteous 1987 IROC is in the Centerfold of the February issue. Good going Scott. Your article is a ground breaker for all the Third Gens for a detailed review in a modern original context look back at the car and its features.

Re: Scott Moyer Got Ink in Hemmings Muscle Machines

So Phil sees it before I did? That's not right. I guess I didn't get a cover photo. They said there could be a possibility, but I guess it didn't come through. Is the article good? Thanks for the notification Phil. I was out on Sunday and checked the local book store to see if they get the new issue before the mail is delivered and I didn't see it. This is cool!!!

While we're waiting for the articles to hit the press, we can slum it with the far less prestigious but more swiftly-published Hemmings digital bloggage:

Did they do ok on the article? They said they were going to send me a proof before it went to print to make sure it was correct, but they never did. I hope there aren't any technical mistakes.

Stuart, looking forward to that article. I love the look of your car!!

Re: Scott Moyer Got Ink in Hemmings Muscle Machines

I was a subscriber from issue #6 until this past Summer...I got so tired of them going from a magazine that did everything from compare Impala SSs and Marauders to explaining the ins and outs of carbed Turbo Buicks, to just another 60s-70s car rag. It went from being a magazine I worshipped to just another Baby Boomer mag

With that said, I went to the newsstand last night to try and find it..didn't see it. I will be checking it out for sure Congrats Scott...its about time

Re: Scott Moyer Got Ink in Hemmings Muscle Machines

Jason, I mentioned that to the editor in the past about what HMM used to be versus now. They can only change if more people speak up. Reach out to Richard Lentinello and let him know your thoughts. I told him that the people who bought the new cars of the '60s are now in their late 60s to mid 70s and that the young buyers of the 80s are now in their 40s and 50s. They should start to focus on a new demographic!

This is a letter I sent him awhile back:
Richard, (rlentinello@hemmings.com)
Scott Moyer again. I wanted to reach out and say how much I enjoy the Muscle Machines magazine. I just subscribed for another three years! While I enjoy the magazine and the articles, I would like to request being able to see cars of different generations. The focus has been primarily on the “Muscle Car” era and while these are great cars, they have been covered in magazines and TV to the fullest. A lot of your readers are in their 40s and 50s, making the cars from the 80s, the cars we purchased new and drove in high school/college. Most people aren’t aware that the Camaro/Firebird/Mustang/Capri, etc, had similar performance numbers to the cars of the 60’s that so many covet and admire. I think it would be great to start seeing some of these cars featured in your magazine.

If you are looking for a feature on a “newer” car, I have located a beautiful 1986 Trans Am in Southampton, MA. The owner of the car recently took it to Cincinnati and met with former UAW employees from the Norwood Factory. His car was built at that factory and there was a gathering two weeks ago. The car is absolutely gorgeous and would look great as a feature in your magazine. If you are interested in this type of content, let me know and I can get you in touch with the owner. Thanks for listening to me again.

Got mine in the mail today. IMO the article was well written and gives our third gens some well deserved publicity. Also mentions this website in the "Club Scene" section. I also enjoy the "Pro's and Con's" they do on feature cars. I think on the "cons" most 3rd gen enthusiasts would agree. Congrats Scott!

HOLY CRAP!!! That looks awesome. I can't wait to get mine. Florida mail must be slow!! I need to reach out and order a few extra copies. I'll wait to read the article in full. One thing I see that I question is the performance data. I don't know if that is actually correct for 1987. I'll post the article once I get permission from Hemmings. They have previously asked to wait two-three months.

BTW, I have no idea who that dorky looking guy is in the owner's profile. That must be a stock photo from their inventory.

Scott,

Thanks very much for the plug with HMM, and indeed, that car was beautiful, and thankfully still is in the hands of its mid-60s owner. I look at pics of it all the time, and say to myself "it was so slow, but so pretty, I should've kept it"...

For me, that truly was the one car that got away...its the one of the 5 third gens I've sold that I seriously miss. Your car looks awesome...can't wait to read the article. One thing is for certain....for many of us, "third gens sparked a lifetime of ownership"

Re: Scott Moyer Got Ink in Hemmings Muscle Machines

The time has come that 3rd gens are finally getting some justified respect in the press. These (and of course the F-brand counterparts) kept the musclecar flame filckering through the darkness of the 1980's.

Scott Moyer: I expected you to be a much younger guy.

JK! Congrats and I can't wait to read the article.

Does that picture make me look old? I didn't think that feeling old really meant I was getting old! Oh well. It is what it is.

Let's not forget that Hemmings has done a Buyer's Guide on the IROC-Z many years ago, recently did an '83 Z28 and a B4C. I know that more 3rd gens are coming when you have Stuart's car and a couple others that have mentioned photo shoots. As a community, we need to reach out to Hemmings editors and let them know that you appreciate the coverage of "newer" cars. We need to tell them that we want to see more of the '70s-'90s cars. I was happy to see a recent article on a rare Fox Body Mustangs. I'd like to see more articles like this and less of the "muscle car era". The 60-73 era has been overplayed ad nauseum.

Re: Scott Moyer Got Ink in Hemmings Muscle Machines

Thanks guys. Mail just got delivered! I checked for my issue and...........no go! Better luck next year is what my son said. Oh well.

BTW, I removed the scans of the magazine article. I understand the magazine's request and hope that others will abide by their wishes. I can post the full article after the next issue reaches the stands, so about 30 days or so. I can put up one page from the magazine as a teaser and do a brief description of what the article entails to entice others to get the magazine. After talking with them, it sounds like they are interested in doing more "outside" of the muscle car timeline. We will have to wait and see.

For awhile, they were red hot on mid/late 1970s and 1980s performance cars. Then for whatever reason -- my guess complaints from enthusiasts of so-called "true" muscle cars -- they stopped. I even cancelled my subscription for awhile, as I was seriously ready to scream if I read one more article on a 1969 Chevelle.

Good to see they seem to be going back to cars outside the well-worn 1964-72 era. Hopefully it's a trend.
