[Q?] 1987 5.7L IROCZ 14K original miles
I'm going to start by saying that I have searched on here on where to ask my question and have not found a clue on where I would. I feel this is the correct section and I read the rules and I think my type of question is not allowed? o.0? If its not it can be moved. Anyways my question is...
I have a 1987 IROC-Z 5.7L TPI Camaro with ttops that I considering on selling... BUT I would like to get other peoples opinion on much it is worth..
Well my car has 13,911 original miles, almost 14k. With, sadly, a salvage title but has not been in a car accident. It has a complete stock engine, all but one power functions work (except windshield wiper water pump thing does not shoot water), mechanical trunk latch works, brand new exhaust with flowmasters, upholstery is good condition, has had seat covers, for i would say, 8-10 years, dash is cracked due to normal sun damage, fog lights are original and are there but dont turn on(wiring?), all other lights everywhere work, antenna is missing, after market radio with no face plate, paint is not original but it is same type of blue and is in average condition, nothing wrong with engine, no check engine lights, rebuilt transmission, has original spare tire with original tire inflator can attached, original car jack, registration is paid till june 2014 but have not received sticker due to smog which passed last year but supposedly need new catalytic converter now.
With that said I would like opinions or suggestions on how much this car is worth. If you need some other more specific info that I cant think of right now just let me know. Also if you're wondering why I am considering selling this car, well this car has been in my family for almost 15 years and was given to me around 2008 but I am moving and think its time for me to part with this car and would love more money in my pocket. I love this car and have put in about $2k in it(irrelevant i know) on new whole exhaust, rebuilt transmission, and some aftermarket parts that I bought but have not installed since this was my project car and was planning on painting before I installed anything new like new brake lights, new headlights, ect. This car did sit a lot but was well taken care of and turned on regularly and I use my truck as my daily driver for work and all. Not going to say my car is rare because i know its not but I think the value is on the mileage. I have seen the '87 5300 original mile camaro on here selling for 16K but in better condition and of course has less miles.

At one point while I drove it I stepped on the gas and it was taking too long to change gears(was usually to the second) and was revving up too 5k+ rpm and the changing abruptly so I felt there was something wrong with the transmission possibly since the car sat around so much that I just decided to rebuild it. Works flawlessly now though of course

Does Seem To Have A Lot Of Things Going Against It For A 13,911 Mile Car,A Salvage Title,It's Been Repainted,Needs A Catalytic Converter,Etc.

This car before has been stored for a long time outside but turned on every now and then. As for the salvage title from what I was told and the only history we know, it was vandalised way before we got it and has been in an auction. It is safe to say that when it got in my hands it has been the time it has been taken care of the most and best

Re: [Q?] 1987 5.7L IROCZ 14K original miles
The hood doesn't seem to line up well with the front bumper. Has the bumper or the hood ever been replaced? Interior shots would give a better indication of the mileage too. To be honest just by the photos alone to me it looks like a 114,000 mile car. And its hard to believe that the trans would need an overhaul at only 14K miles. Im not saying you are lying Im just saying that If I were coming to look at it thats what I would be suspicious of. With a salvaged title and the other issues you spoke of, I wouldn't pay more than 4 or 5 grand for it. And that is if the seats and carpet are in really nice condition. Does car fax show that the miles are correct?

Doesn't the coolant can look way to dirty for a 14,000 mile car?
Also would like to see pictures of the inside.

Doesn't really matter, the salvage title negates any value it had as a low mileage vehicle.
Enjoy it, it's worth as much as any other similar equipped iroc. Should be fun, but you won't get a mint selling it.

Re: [Q?] 1987 5.7L IROCZ 14K original miles
I hate to break it to you, but a 14K mile car? In reality I think it is closer to 114,000
Here is what I see...
- What is the red on the intake base? There is ussually nothing red under there that I can recall
- Why is the Throttle body Blue? Seem odd kind of like someone young owned the car at one point
- The upper hose clamp on the radiator does not appear correct,
- What is up with the red wire along the firewall?
- The paint looks dull, even for a 25 year old car, you said it was repainted, looks like a Maaco paint job...
What gets me is the wheels look really good,
Of course it is hard to tell by pictures why the paint is dull, or why the wheels look so good.
As for the salvage title... Most cars it takes whatever value is and cuts it in half... That was a rule of thumb... Now it seems it is more aligned with 2/3. Being a Camaro... you might get a little more, but do not hold your breath.
I personally would pay no more than $8000 (If it was certifiable 14K miles), and even that might be a stretch, I would really have to look over the car and figure out what is wrong...

Re: [Q?] 1987 5.7L IROCZ 14K original miles
Sorry to burst your bubble, but that car is not an original 14k mile car. And while I know that a transmission rebuild is possible with less than 20k miles, I don't believe that this car, listed at 14k, falls into the same category as mine. No matter how bad a car was treated, at 14k miles, the coolant overflow tank won't look that bad. I also noticed that the fan warning sticker is missing. That would not be missing on a 14k mile car unless it was wrecked and the panel was replaced or it just fell off due to age and under hood activities.
Based on the other comments and your description, sight unseen, I'd say that the car is worth no more than $3k because of the salvage title and all of the repairs still needed.

Re: [Q?] 1987 5.7L IROCZ 14K original miles
I would argue that these days the salvage title drops the value of a collector car( which is what a 14k mile car would be for maximum value) more than half as there are now at least 3 states that don't allow registration of salvage titles AT ALL. here in VT our auctions are now overflowing with bargain salvage cars because our neighbor NY does not allow salvage titles to be registered at all.

Re: [Q?] 1987 5.7L IROCZ 14K original miles
Salvage title means nothing to me because I would not believe the mileage unless it was documented anyway; so both are "moot" points. If the low mileage can be PROOVEN then the salvage title would apply in my book; Till then it's a driver/street car ready for some new bruises.
The ONLY reason I agree with Scott:
That means it can't be driven on the street untill it gets fixxed. All other "repairs" or "upgrades" mean nothing. If it can't be legally driven on the road,..........it's a parts car until repaired.
Fix the Cat converter ( and all other inspection related problems )and get a good inspection sticker in the windshield. Then you can start thinking 3,500+ depending on the condition of the mechanics, electrical, underbody and interior.
Just my opinion.
