84 Camaro gas tank originality
So I've been wanting to post something like this for a while. Im not sure What size gas tank I have in my Camaro. Tell me what you think of this.
I decided to keep track of gas mileage, So I fill up after driving on E for linger then I felt comfortable with. But I made it, and put 14.2 gallons in. That did bring it from E to Full. This is where it gets weird, my "Stock appearing" gas gauge is in gallons. From 0 gallons to 16 gallons.
Now get this, I filled up again from 0 gallons today, and it topped off at 12 on the fuel station pump. Remember when I said I drove on 0gallons before a while before? I think somehow I have a little more gas then What the gauge is telling me.
I know the previous owner changed somethings about the car, mainly rims, paint and reupholstered interior. Other then that I don't know what else. I know what else I've changed and it wasn't the guages.
Please feel free to add any input. Thanks.

Re: 84 Camaro gas tank originality
Btw I'm only getting 9 mpg. So that is another reason I think it was weird that I was able to drive for maybe 15 miles on 0 gallons.

The gas gauge isn't a measuring instrument. Only thing it's good for is helping you decide when to fill up before you run out.
The sender/gauge are calibrated so that the first few gallons from full do not move the needle at all. The reason for this is to keep consumers from coming back to the dealership with a new car complaining about bad gas mileage. The other problem is that it's quite common for the float to hang up and give an inaccurate reading, especially when the level is low.

That's pretty much all I use it for anyway. But i was kinda thinking the same thing. Most of the fuel system is almost 30 years old I guess.

15.5 US gallons for gas tank, however you will not be able to fill it to that volume. In-tank fuel pump and gas gage float will decrease the tank volume.
