1986 Camaro Z28 With 2,900 Miles On Ebay
I saw this on Ebay this morning. A 1986 Camaro Z28 advertised with only 2,900 miles on the clock. Lots of nice reference photos for my (and your) collection. Does anyone know if that is the stock exhaust on it? I think I might have seen this car for sale somewhere a while back but I'm not sure.

Clean car...not very desireable in my opinion. 150hp motor, no options to speak of...great color, but as a third gen enthusiast I cannot say I'd personally be remotely interested in owning it.
Short of being a Sport Coupe, its as boring as you can get.

Cat and atleast the tips have been replaced. It would make a great turbo LS sleeper car.

Glad to hear someone else feels the same way I do. I would certainly never look down on anyone that bought and drove this car (being as I am one that has waited all my life to get the car I got), but I wanted stuff like the T-tops, factory driving lights, etc., whenever I got mine. This one, outside from being really clean, is a little bland for my taste.

Re: 1986 Camaro Z28 With 2,900 Miles On Ebay
I've looked at that car on Ebay as well. It's nice to see that some of the 1985-1987 Z28's have been kept in factory stock form and not ran into the ground.
People tend to forget that for the 1982-1987 model years the regular Z28's not the IROC's were GM's bread and butter for the Chevrolet side of f-body performance. The IROC (RPO code B4Z) package option was an adition over the regular Z28 for 1985-1987 model years so many people saved some money by purchasing a non-IROC option car.
Still the LG4 motor is what the main detraction is for me with this car. That car is in very nice shape and has a very desirable color combination. It's just I wouldn't want to have that motor. Especially since that car is a low mile original I would want to keep it as factory stock as possible.
I know it's easy to swap out the motor for a 350 or hop up the 305, but that would take away from the originality of this car which is why it's given special light in the first place.
Too bad it's not one of the 74 1986 Z28's that got the L69 motor. I would really like to see one of those in person.

It must have been a disease... People buy a semi-base car, store it for 25+ years and think that it will be worth something... There have been several of these pop up lately, an 88 Formula L03 with low miles for example, nice car, just nothing that I found desirable other than being yellow
I would say, the car is tops $8000
Oh, and I hate the tail tips, they are tacky.

Great color !!!! I noticed the stripe on the bumper has already peeled off a little (under the lic. plate bracket) .... A little premature for a car with such low miles on it !!! I like the colors though !!

No options...what a shame!
Those door panels look like they belong on a Chevette...just hideous. Barf @ the exhaust tips as well.

Re: 1986 Camaro Z28 With 2,900 Miles On Ebay
Its kind of a fascinating car...one that I am sure will be preserved well throughout the years, and is something you sure don't see. I like oddballs. I liked having a regular TA instead of a GTA. This is kind of the same deal. Its true that cars like this were far more common than what is "common" in third gens today (GTAs, IROCs).
I love seeing it...just wouldn't put my money in it, personally.

For some reason it has a V6 tachometer. The oil PSI gauge reads 0-40-80, and the V8's should be 0-30-60.
Or am I missing something?
Unique car otherwise. Like mentioned, would have been amazing if it was an L69.
Also, why are the headlight buckets glossy?

Great colour combo. Whoever put on those exhaust tips should be shot.

Love the color, hate the interior. Strange that they put those exhaust tops on but did nothing else. The government-mandated 85 MPH Speedo is a laugh. That was so ridiculous at the time. Still, a nice piece of history.

Good catch....but it has a 5k redline, so it indeed was meant for a v8...

Re: 1986 Camaro Z28 With 2,900 Miles On Ebay
The glossy buckets mean the nose was painted or it's possible they waxed or buffed them to the wrong finish. If the mileage is accurate, I can't believe it would have been replayed.

Re: 1986 Camaro Z28 With 2,900 Miles On Ebay
I saw the headlight bucket issue already and wondered the same. It almost makes you wonder if the car really has the mileage advertised with a painted front end and the oil pressure gauge question. I was not aware of the gauge issue until it was mentioned and I compared it to many pictures I have of Z28 instrument clusters and they all have the 0-30-60.
Oh, and they weren't just waxed. Mine have been waxed so often, yet they are still satin/semi gloss.

In the pictures it looks like the headlight buckets are body color not gloss black. The other pics I have of a low mile 86z have body color headlight buckets as well.

Re: 1986 Camaro Z28 With 2,900 Miles On Ebay
Whatever pictures you have of a Z28 or even the one pictured in this thread are incorrect if they are body colored. All Z28s got the satin black buckets. That was part of the Z28 design characteristics to have trim areas in satin black. This dates back to the 2nd gen cars.

Any low miles car like that is nice to have. Being a stick makes it better. It also has the baddest, highest horsepower version of the LG4 ever.
Those exhaust tips have to go, however.
BTW, are those the correct pedal pads? Shouldn't they have a honeycomb pattern?

I was wondering about that too. I thought it might be missing something on the fan shroud but wasn't sure. With that and the glossy headlight buckets, I'm thinking it may have had some front end collision damage repaired but not quite back to original spec.

The ID tag wasn't used after 1985 in that location so that is normal. The emissions labels are on the under side of the hood, not on the plastic panel.

Thank you, you just answered another question for me (I think). the Z I have has the honeycomb pattern, and I didn't know if that is original to the Z or not. I'm assuming it is? MY Z has the honeycomb pattern.

I love this car. Hardtop, manual transmission, good suspension, no A/C. Immaculate body & interior. Minimal collector value.
Perfect candidate for a cheap Hot Rod. Pull the engine, vacuum bag it and stick it under your workbench just in case the next guy might want it. Install a mild 350 and proper exhaust. Put that stock air cleaner back on a non-CC Q-jet.
End result will be an awesome looking car with enough power to avoid boulevard humiliation by a soccer mom in a new Caravan. If you drive it nice the drivetrain will hold up.

Can someone post a pic of their "satin finish" headlamp buckets so I can compare them to mine? Mine are fairly glossy...but part of my job is to inspect a car for paint work. I know part of my IROC has been sprayed, but I swear the nose is OEM GM paint.

I believe the car is a low mile car, but I do not believe the 2900 miles or the fact that this is being sold as original. There are too many things that don't add up to an original 2900 mile car. Has anybody noticed that the front grill looks pretty worn and the driving lights are slightly hazed? Also, the rear black section of the taillights look worn as does the emergency brake handle. This doesn't happen to a 2900 mile car. Here's the biggest kicker...why does the car have a blue interior, but has black door panels?

That may be the case, but when a person requests to see what original satin finish headlight buckets look like and you posted your faded, sun beaten ones, I need to respond that they aren't the correct finish. I never said they weren't factory. These are the correct finish.

Also the replacement catalytic converter is a dead giveaway it is probably not original miles...I still have my original 29 yrs. old cat with 12,000 miles and it is in perfect condition.
