Re: My new 88 Gta
What info are you looking for?
All GTA's had fender emblems from the factory...
As far as whether it's worth restoring, we'll need to wait for either more information or preferably photos.

Re: My new 88 Gta
My vote is that it's a real GTA. Air pump seats, digital dash, and the gold bird emblems that were removed from the sail panel and relocated to the front fenders in order to make room for the rear brake air cooler inlets.

It does not look to be in all that bad of shape, but like said missing alot of GTA parts. First thing that needs to go is the side scoops

Re: My new 88 Gta
Mine is a 305 five speed. Not as many as the 350 automatics, but there's still quite a few out there. Any idea on the axle gear ratio?

Re: My new 88 Gta
I can tell you that IF it is a GTA (which it appears it could be due to exterior and not interior) it is one of 809.. which mine is included in 89... welcome to the exclusive club
need the right hood too.. spoiler.. wheels..correct badging.. etc...

MK6 -- Transmission, 5-Speed Manual -- 366
source: http://gtasourcepage.com/89RPOFigures.html
gear ratio is same as your 89
GM3 -- Rear Axle Ratio (3.45) -- 809

You definitely should!
Make sure you check the sticker between the seats for those codes!
http://gtasourcepage.com/88RPOFigures.html
make sure it has Y84 on it.. that is the GTA package. then get to work!
I wouldnt call one of 809 semi rare.. it is very rare

I would say for the OP to do the car how he wants, but IMO close to stock or stock always looks the best

Re: My new 88 Gta
This is true, however don't confuse the OP with rare=more value, just means you will not see that many of them. We all love our 3rd gens, but they are not rare and valuable like some of the old Mopars and what not.

Agreed. rare for a 3rd gen doesn't currently = $$$$
but long term I believe it will. back in the 80's I knew a lot of people with Chevelles, novas, Cudas etc that may have been rare... than now are outrageous. in the 80's many of them were common about the same age then as ours are now... Knew a guy who had a 440 Cuda 6 pack in plum crazy color. poor college student.. it cost him about 4K... those are in six-figures now. not all but depends on rarity too.. he said it wasn't a hemi so it wasn't worth anything.. not the bad mamajama (read 5.7 vs 5.0 5 speed debates)
late 70s TAs were junk and gutless wonders to own 15 years ago... now some go for real money... (15K - 60Ks)
when guys my age retire.. mark my words.. they will be worth money.. they had decent performance, better looks and handling. the people will want that car they wanted in HS and they will have their homes paid off and have more cash. that's what happened to the late 70s models... IMHO
Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
