Finally got one.

After waiting 22 years I finally have an IROC of my own. I couldn't get one when I was 17 due to lack of funds and I have wanted one ever since. I steered my sons into that direction when they were looking for their first cars. One has an '85 Z28 and the other '91 RS. Now it's my turn. I'm the proud new owner of a '89 IROC. Only a few minor defects and I got a good deal on it.

Re: Finally got one.

Congratulations! I know exactly how you feel. I wanted an IROC-Z back in the day when they were new, couldn't afford it then. I looked for a long time for one I could afford, ended up with a Firebird Formula 350, my second choice for a 3rd gen but I couldn't pass up the deal. The blue is beautiful, post some more photos, I'd like to see them.

Looks great. I love seeing these cars end up with owners who will love and care for them instead of use and abuse them. Congrats!

Re: Finally got one.

Last year I almost got a 89 formula for 1200 but something just didn't feel right. Maybe because it wasn't a camaro, idk.

The IROC has 350 TPI, 4 wheel disk brakes, all power even the seats. Not sure about the rear end but I'm guess it's stock as well as the tranny.
I'll start rebuilding everything in a year or so, right now I'm just having fun!

LOL!
My daughter is 2 and if she hears that I am going to look at a camaro or firebird she has to be with me!

Just bought a 87 Trans am with a swapped 350TPI.
She wanted to ride in it but it needs some TLC before I drive it.

She rode in my 85 Z28 I had and my 87 Formula 350.
Its awesome to see her point them out when we are on the road!

Re: Finally got one.

Good looking car...be sure to post if you ever find a vendor that can make replicas of the leather and cloth seats!! I had the all-leather seats in my 91 Camaro, and I was lucky they weren't split...but they were a little on the dry side...

I guess I got a good angle on the picture. There are plenty of cracks, it will need to be replaced. My son found one in a junkyard, no cracks, for $20. Some people are just lucky.

Re: Finally got one.

Looks like you got a nice solid IROC. A little TLC and it will look very nice. Maybe you'll bring it to the next central Texas 3rd Gen gathering and I'll get to see it. If isn't not held too far away from Austin, I'll be there with my Firebird.

Oh. Okay. I was about to call shenanigans and question if it was a real thirdgen if it had no cracks in the dash! Lol. Especially being a Texas car.
